I bought my tags but haven't seen a cat this year. We're going to hunt this Sat in San Berdue. Got two toms last year in thisn area.

Is anyone having success this year?

Going Saturday after the turkey seminar at Lake Sutherland. Wanna met up there?

San Berdoo would be my next choice but not enough time to drive back home and hunt.

Funny, I fell my cat tags every year. I remember when you could take cats all year long, the laws changed way back in the late 70s or early 80s I forget lol. The DFG was only going to let you take 3 bobcats a year but you can thank the CVCA for getting it up to 5 bobcats a year. Times and rules have changed, but the bobcats have not, they out there if you know how to find them, good luck.

Jesse,
Let me know where and when and I'll be there. Westy (Rick) may be in Ramona so he may want to come along.

Mav,
I was going to try the Burdue side. I don't know if its a good idea or not. Bad idea?

The last time I was there, I saw lots of cat tracks in the wash... The sheep look purdy too

last time I was out there was during Quial season and saw a couple yotes . I only had 7 7 1/2 's I did call in one cat that was between me and the wash but it was way to far out for me to shot at.. You got me really thinking about going out there in the am.. I don't have a Bobcat tag so its only yotes for me.

I've never hunted bobcat before, but I used to see bobcats all over Mt. Pacifico in the ANF a couple of years back. another place I remember with bobcats is on the mendenhal ridge route. Seen several and this is the area I once saw a black bobcat. now that was a beautiful animal.

A black bobcat? Very interesting indeed, that has to be a first for me, I've never even heard of a black bobcat. I have heard of black Mt lions and Jaguars AKA black panthers, but never a bobcat. Do you have a picture of this cat or a witness? I don't want to say I know better, but I've seen a few hundred live and dead bobcats in my life but never anything close to black. More info on such a cat would be very interesting to say the least, Good Hunting.

nope no pics, and I was alone. But I saw it for over a minute at close range . imagine a bobcat with the colors reversed.Except the spots were more lighter. gave the spots a transparent kinda look. I always like to hunt that area for deer as theres a genetic trace up there that produces a lot of non typicals. you see some really strange antlers. Anyway I had never heard of a black bobcat either, but I know what I saw. and I've seen quite a few bobcats in my life, maybe not hundreds but at least several dozens.

Although quite rare, the melanistic mutation does occur in bobcats. I would personally love to see one treed by my dogs though I wouldn't have the heart to tag it. You can bet I would take plenty of pictures though!

That's really interesting, thanks for the pic. By the way, I have seen an almost pure white ( cream color) bobcat before, no pics sorry lol.
