Hey all. I have my Cleveland Ntl Forest maps & topo maps and a hunting license and my bow soooo... I can just traipse up around Mt. Palomar for example and if the land isn't posted as private I can hunt turkey there? Hate to ask a stupid question but after reading through all the Ca DFG regs it seems that it is just that simple. After lurking these forums seems like it might be a bit trickier.

Generally speaking, I think you are correct. It's probably a good idea to call the DFG field office to find out if there are any restricted areas. They can also let you know if you're waisting your time in a particular area. I know for deer, it's not quite as simple as you've put it. X-Zones and special hunts require the tag to be won in a drawing. I haven't seen anything like that for turkey, except that in some areas there are restrictions for the first few weekends. This appears to be more a safety concern to keep the areas from becoming overloaded with anxious hunters.

There are no tags required for turkey hunting. just make sure you have the upland game stamp on your license. Then if it's on public land, have at it.
