el Vaquero, which WU property are you going to?

r

HE...my first time, but my uncle has been there a lot. Supposed to be a pretty good archery only property for hogs he says. I don't know what the success rate is there, but I've been itchin' to get out again since my Tejon trip in March.

Rancho, this pig was easily 100 yards from the road. Up hill mind you but still, that is a looooooong drag and Phil and I were spent just getting it to the road

I'm from Texas and I have no clue where Tejon is ... but I am struck by the beauty of the terrain in these photos. Very nice.

It's in southern CA about an hour or so north of LA. It's an amazing place. Here are some more with just scenery

Rancho,

Have you gone hunting exclusively with your scopeless .444 Marlin carbin?

Reason I asked is that I don't want to feel foolish handicapping myself with scopeless 30-30 Win.

Fools like company.

I was hunting with my Timber Carbine and '06. I used the Carbine for the thick stuff, and the .300 win mag for spot and stumble. I knocked that pigs dick in the dirt with a 50 foot shot into it's bed.

I'll be using the same tactic this year - I want to hang one on my new '06, and am prepared to take a long shot if need be, but I also want to get one with the .444 and a 300 gr. hard cast. If Scott ties a bid red boar to a tree like I told him, mebbe I'll just use my .44 mag.

Handicap?

I don't hardly think THIS is a handicap!

Here's my second Tejon hog. My first and LAST trip up there in the rainy season!

For those who've heard my tales and listened to my advice...the majority of my experience (and success) at Tejon has been inside the marked area shown here.

Now look around that map... almost everything you see there holds pigs.

Point is, there's a lot there that I haven't even seen yet. You could be the one to add a hot-spot on the map.

So come on down!

Here's year three, hog three...by the way.

With these superb pictures of the Tejon boars and the magical, beautiful, enchanting terrain, it is really AMAZING that the Tejon Ranch is ONLY 1 hour north(when there is NO traffic in the wee hours of the weekend morning) of the traffic clogged, people packed city of Los Angeles.........Amazing!!!!!! Thanks for the pictures guys and gal(8track). God Bless y'all.

Speck,

With the picture as a backdrop, it made my comments boastful (LOL). And indeed, I was still congratulating myself on that hunt even until now. But more because I spotted the hog with just a slight movement within the peripherals of my left eye which is almost half shut by the injury. (Tip for first time hunter, pig movements, unlike deer, are quicker and more purposeful, e.g, straight line. This provides an advantage to the hunter with strong peripheral vision.)

And then again, I am still thinking of the what-if-my-gun-has-scope-and-there-is-opening-in-the-bush possibilities of that buck in SBNF which I passed up for fear of needless injury on the deer.

Now my not be able to join this hunt feels a lot more painful than the injuries in my accident.

Rancho - Nice tactics. So with a back up gun for every shooting situation, what's your success ratio in Tejon? Don't be shy now I know you are well ahead of Speck on the kill ratio.

More from the land of the Bear.

George on right (Jaergermeister) after their slide down Ghegus with a hog Sunday night at the bell. I was the pickup man on that one.

2nd pic is Ghegus Ridge. Most pig sounding ridge I know of. Geeeegus = hogs

Here are a few others...

Hronk usually comes out pretty good at Tejon.

Cory (whatever happened to this fella) showed up in a Porsche for his first big game hunt. He did pretty good, I have to say.

I can't remember what Rancho used on this pig, but it was stone dead when it came into camp.
