Anybody keep a level on their scope?

How are you leveling your scopes? I used a couple spirit levels on my last scope.

I got a couple of plumb line levels at the hardware store and used those when mounting my last scope. Probably paid $3 for both of them.

As for using levels while shooting, I see no value added if you're shooting at reasonable hunting distances....300 or less.

I use a good flashlight shining through the scope on a wall, while the rifle is in something like a lead sled with the rifle level. This way you can see the reticle on the wall, and use a level on the wall to be sure it is level. I am pretty sure you can google this.

Hello! I have an old Remington left from my grandfather with an old scope but it is in ideal condition! The rifle is good, it has been cared for years with different oils, cleaned in time, etc. Still, I want to change its scope. Are you going to be hunting or target shooting? You will have to modify your gun to fit a rail on it to mount the scope. And to use the night vision you will have to add an infrared light with that scope. Both will make the setup very heavy to carry around all day and to lift and hold the gun steady. Plus you would really have to be tech savvy to be able to use all the features of that scope. You don’t want to try a figure anything out when you are out hunting. Do you really need night vision? Unless you are out shooting hogs at night there’s no real application for it. Use the scope you have now and see how it performs. Don’t go out a spend a lot of money for something that looks cool but you really can’t use. I use the ATN Thermal LT 160 for night hog hunting. Does not have all the bells and whistles, video recording/distance readings, etc. but I'm out shooting hogs not pushing buttons.

There's alot going on inside that scope....very busy. Personally, I'd see how the rifle shoots with the existing scope before changing it. Some of those old Remingtons are not as accurate as you might expect. Remington used to boast that they were using production machines over 100 years old. Not the best selling point for accuracy. If you can't shoot MOA at 200 yds, I'd save the money and buy a better rifle first.

Sometimes it's best to just retire gramps old standby and cherish the memories.

Sounds like you will be "overscoped", and you should seriously consider Itdann,s advice. How old is the "old Remington". Do you know the model number?

I never try to do it by myself. I always got too specialized shops to repair all my hunting equipment. It always must work correctly, and any deregulation can ruin hunting. Luckily I don't use so much hunting equipment, and most importantly for me is the scope. Luckily it is very durable, and it never broke up. I found out about it on ballachy.com. It is expensive, but it is worth it. I drowned it in mud multiple times, and after cleaning it, it worked as new. Even the clarity of vision didn't lower, which is amazing.
