Life Jacket Recall Announced

The United States Coast Guard has announced an important recall of self-inflating life jackets.

The life jackets – manufactured by SOSpenders Corporation – are being recalled because they will not inflate correctly. The recall includes approximately 7,200 automatic inflatable life jackets (also known as personal floatation devices, or PFDs ). Approximately 300 defective Hammar units in one lot of 500 were loaded incorrectly and will not inflate the vest. SOSpenders Corp. has made the decision to recall all Hammar products for 100% safety inspection.

This unit malfunction was discovered by SOSpenders during in-house testing and immediately communicated to the appropriate individuals to take corrective action. SOSpenders received no reports of units malfunctioning and no injuries have been reported at this time.

The affected life jackets all have the brand name SOSpenders and can be identified by a Yellow Hammar MA1 Manual/Automatic Inflator Cap and include the following items and parts numbers:

· 8030264 STD 38 MILLENIUM-WM 38HSTDM-W (PFD)

· 8030265 HAR 38 MILLENIUM-WM 38HHARM-W (PFD)

· 8030266 STD 38 MILLENIUM 38HSTDM (PFD)

· 8030267 HAR 38 MILLENIUM 38HHARM (PFD)

· 8030268 TACT VEST W/POC-AUTO HAM 38HTV/9 (PFD)

· 8030316 ULTRA LITE 38 HAMMAR 38HUL/9 (PFD)

If you own a vest in the above list, you should stop using it immediately and return it to the SOSpenders factory in Fruitland, ID. For additional information, contact the SOSpenders customer service department at 1-800-858-5876 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. PST Monday through Friday.

Please Note: The new inflation units that will replace all recalled units will contain a clearly identifiable inspection marking that is placed directly on the face of the inflation device. A picture of this new unit is enclosed below. If your unit has a “100% inspected” marking on it, you have a new unit and do not need to return it to SOSpenders. Please contact SOSpenders customer service if you have further questions.
