I finally stopped procrastinating and got my lifetime license withthe Big game and Upland game upgrades. License and tags cam in the mail last week. They sent me 10 pig tags. 5 for last year and 5 for next year. I have under two months to fill 8 pig tags. Hopefully I can fill two this wwekend at Choppers place.

Anyone else out there have some extra piggies they need to get rid of????

I paid $1274.
That included the license ($609)
Upland game upgrade; upland game stamp, and CA duck stamp ($213.25)
Big game upgrade ($451.75); 1st deer tag, 5 pig tags

The big game package will basically pay for itself in five years and help to pay for the whole program from there on out. I think in less than ten years this will pay for itself. Just need to ake care of myself to stick around and enjoy it.

Here a link to the DFG page: DFG Lifetime License

Cost depends on your age and what you get. Full details are on the DFG web site. Combined fishing and hunting and "additional" fishing and bird hunting and big game hunting runs over $1500 now unless you are real old or real young. Good part is that if you move out of the state, it is still good for life.

If you expect to keep hunting in CA for another 10-12 years, the lifetime license is a pretty good deal. I have one in CA and one in NC, and I'm not a bit sorry about either one... I'll be able to hunt the rest of my life in both of my "home" states without buying another thing except a federal duck stamp.

I always ask for fishing license during Christmas - fishing is covered.
I always ask for deer/beer tag for my birthday ( in Aug)- big game tag is covered.
Now i just need to convince the wife that buying her (and myself) the hunting license for her birthday (in June) is a good thing.

I invested in the Kali lifetime license in 2003, cost was $445. I just received the 3rd license, so on average I've spent $148.33 per year for a hunting license the past 3 years.
I sure hope I stay healthy for long long time.

Then last year the DFG was going to raise the rates on the Lifetime Big Game so I sprung for that.

It is nice having the new license and 5 pig tags mailed to the house.....

Cheers,

Carl

The problem with a lifetime license in CA is that you can't really hunt anything with it, just rabbits and ground squirrels. To hunt birds, you need to purchase an additional bird stamp, for ducks...a duck stamp, for deer...a deer tag, for bear, bobcat, pigs, etc. you need tags. Unless you also purchase a lifetime big game tag or lifetime bird stamps, you still can't really hunt anything. I have a lifetime hunting and fishing license, but haven't purchased the lifetime tags or stamps yet. In CA it's all about the money.

Boarhunter,

I don't get the complaint.

That's about the way it is with lifetime licenses in most other states. The basic hunting license is exactly that, whether it's lifetime or annual (or three day). If you want to hunt big game or migratory birds, you buy the appropriate stamps.

It's no different in NC, for example. I had to buy a lifetime combination (Sportsman's) license in order to get my big game tags, waterfowl stamp, and fishing priviledges.

Speck.. I think the lifetime license here in Texas comes with everything but the Federal Duck Stamp.. Of course we do not have pig stamps, but we are exempt from all state stamp endorsements.. I believe that it costs $1000 without the duck stamp....
