I killed a pig this last weekend. Shot it through the lungs after it got up from its bed. I had shot and lost this same pig 11 days earlier, in the same bed. That shot went in the back and ran up along the spine. I recovered the broadhead and 8" of shaft. It was stinky and nasty looking around the old wound. The body cavity wasn't touched with that first shot. I took the hams, heart, and liver. I haven't eaten any yet and am now wondering if I should. The meat looks and smells good and I took great care in keeping the knife and cuts clean. I wonder if I can get sepsis or some other nasty illness from its being wounded for 11 days?
What do you guys know about this? Any advice appreciated.
I killed this guy last Friday below Liberty Glen. Sunday morning there were pigs feeding about 75 yards from the camp host. They didn't afford us a shot, disappearing like pigs do.

It would have been nice if you could have pulled the pig away from the trail. Leaving the pig like that doesn't look good.

Where did he mention leaving the pig on a trail?

The pig was 15 yards off the trail. No sign it was moved by yotes to that location. It will not look good when hikers and the camp host come up on a pig with only the hams taken. I understand your reasoning, just pointing out that it does not look good.

I'd take the meat off the bone that looked good and eat it up, 'nuff said. These hogs are scarred up and suffering from something most times, the meat is meat. If it smells good, cook it till 160 degrees and enjoy.

It's fine to eat, especially since you avoided the wounded area. Pigs are hearty animals and can survive more than you think. If the meat was bad you would know it.
