Barnes .270 in Federal Trophy load. 250lb boar around 70 yards. Single shot, instant drop. Similar end result with same bullet/load on a 300 lb'er last year.

Interesting after doing some more research on the bullet I noticed it was much smaller that my 30 cal. The bullet was actually a .277 diameter, a 270 caliber and the bullet looked very similar to a barnes and not an E tip. The bullet that I recover had 3 bans on it like the barnes bullet. Apparently some one else took a shot at this hog that I killed. Now I don't know what to believe. I am sure they are both good bullets but after doing some investigation I found that the bullet I recovered does not even come close looking like a Nosler E tip. The E tip has no bans on it. When I looked at some barnes bullets I use on my 7 mag there were 3 bans. I am almost sure that this is a barnes bullet. Well you could look at th
e pi
cture that I posted.

Very very common for pigs. They are tough bastards and shot placement is key regardless of what you are shooting the piggys with. The piggy I shot in march was 150lbs maybe and that thing had been blasted with a shotgun before my .308 destroyed his ticker.

Someone said the bullet was a hornady non lead because it only had 3 bands on it where the barnes has 4 bans. Your bullet looked like it performed great. I have a bunch of 150 grain in a barnes TSX for my 300 WBY I am going to give these a try. After seeing so many post on the results of the barnes I thought I would give them a try again. Hogs are tough animals and hard to put down. I will say that over the years I have found several things in side a hog. I found a broad head blade while skinning around the armor plate and now finding this bullet in the back strap. I have found bullets before in the hide but never in a back strap. The meat was extra tender that night. Hopefully I won't get copper posing. LOL.

Hogslayer, thanks for taking the extra time and effort to track down the correct bullet origination, alot of guys would have just claimed it was a bad Nosler design and forgot about it.

That is definitely not an E-tip bullet. You don't see much copper in an Etip. All E-tips are black.

Well, sort of. If it's factory ammo, winchester adds the LUBALOX (the black stuff) to the bullet. If you reload and buy directly from Nosler, no LUBALOX. The last batch I reloaded did have one cannelure ring.

I have to agree though, doesn't look like an e-tip. Every one that I've recovered has expanded perfectly, deer, elk and pig.

I'm a huge fan of Nosler, those folks really know what they are doing.

No not all E tips are black. If you load your own they are coper looking and have a dull green tip. I don't know about factory bullets that are loaded, but I do know one thing for sure that the e tips for reloading are coper and have a green tip.

When i first saw the picture I was like wait a minute thats not a E TIP... Maybe E TIP made in China lol jk....

Ya figured since it had lines around the bullet theres no way its a E TIP...

My 7 mag with 150 grain Etip does wonders... my piggies no about it...

you are right hog slayer... when you buy factory load... WINCHESTER ETIP BY NOSLER they come in black which is a tin layer of color maybe as a trademark by winchester ... but reloads come all copper with green tip... I first bought the 7mag 150 grain winchester e tip... loved it then started doing reloads... ever since am happy as hell

Nostler E-Tip bullets has no band. Hornady GMX & Barnes has band on their bullets.
