I,ve been hunting for shedds, and finding lots of dead deer, mostly does and yearlin'.....I couldn,t tell if they were wounded or just died of natural causes, but its more than I have seen in a long time...One place I was walking had over 300 deer there eating on sunflower stocks. They would just move up and around me,then go back to eatin'.I found five dead deer there.....In that one day I counted over 1000 deer in a 26 mile radius....The state is going to have to do something soon...

That many live deer in such a small area , must be dying from starvation or disease . Possibly the farmers are tired of the varmints eating their crops and just thinning them out some . Wish we had more deer, don't think I've seen 300 in the last ten years put together !

Fossilman, be careful what you wish for. If you want to get rid of your deer just sic the NYS Dept of Environmental Conservation after em. They'll get your herd down to size so where you gotta search to find a large herd of 6 deer in the winter. No exaggeration they must kill 80% of the bucks here every season and pound the does just for good measure....hunter satisfaction they call it. Okay, I realize this forum is not for posting your "bitch" about your state wildlife....so I'll stop. I too have found many dead deer, fresh kills, all fawns who were weakened from struggling to feed in the 225" or so of snowe we got. Seems the little buggers just don't have the legs after it melted down some and the coyotes (and we have a lot of em) take em down like nuthin. Oh. I've found a few dead 6 points and one old timer (gummer) who'd already shed his antlers off (gotta find em). Good luck.

Yes Shaq, the government does go over board on their thinning of wildlife, but I was thinking of issue-ing more tags out for the common people,we get extra tags here so we can thin them out but the price just keeps going up on the tags.If the state would work with the people, the people would work with the state-Something like buy three tags get the forth for free or discount-know what I mean?...North Dakota has always had a great deer population....They issued over 200,000 tags last year, most were filled too...

That sounds okay to me. Lots of deer and probably not too much population or pressure on them compared to the kind of pressure they have on them in the heavily polulated areas of NYS. I agree, let the folks harvest more deer and fill the freezer.
