Been a while since I've gotten out with some dogs on a good hog hunt. Used to hunt onc eor twice a week back at home in Hawaii. Got a few good boars under our belts. I'm looking for someone that dogs hogs willing to take an able body along for a hunt. Can throw and stick a hog. can handle dogs. I just need to get some hunting out of my system. Thanks to anyone willing to help.

Evan

P.S. my friend back in hawaii is looking for a BMC bitch. Anyone knows where I can get one?

Here in CA, it is illegal to stick a hog with a knife. It must have a bullet, or arrow, hole in it. Dumb, I know. You will also have a tough time hunting without getting some access to private property (which is highly coveted and won't come easily) or paying for a guide. A guide will run you $400-600 for a weekend hunt.

Don't dogs being imported into Hawaii have to go through a 4 month or so quaranteen period, which is really expensive?

Hi Ev, and welcome to JHO.

As SD said, hogs must be taken with archery or firearms in CA.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the houndsmen from this list offered you a hunt, but if they don't, you might try a call to Ed Sparling at Las Viboras ranch in Hollister. I think he's offering hunts in the $400 range, which is about average for the area.

I have hunted with him, and while I didn't find the dog hunt much to my liking, I do think he treated us well, and showed us a real good time.

Hunts in that price range are too much for a broke college student. Thats weird that pigs cant be taken with knives.

bayedsolid: they shortened the quarantine down to less than a week if the dog is kept under certain conditions for a few weeks prior to the shipping.

Heres a pic of my two dogs. the one on the left is a ridgeback/shepherdxlab. The one on the right is pure ridgeback.

When I hunted for hogs in HI, after the dogss cornered a small one, we casterated it, then let it go for some other day.
