So here is the deal.My dad has been archery hunting faithfully for about 15 years now(no matter how many shots he could have made with a gun he wont switch)He has mostly hunted deer and so far with no success.It never bothers him because he just loves being out there in the woods.I want to take him on a pig hunt where he will at least see some good sign.Do any of you know of anyone that charges a tresspass fee or something that maybe isnt guided so we can save some money.I want to suprise him but dont have a grand or more for a full guided hunt.Any info would be great.Thanks guys!

camp roberts is of the 101. North of paso robles about 12 miles the scheadule that they have out shoes there might be a hunt the 28-29 of april but its not for sure they have a tape information line like fhl that says if there going to be open. 1-805-238-8167 I called it but they still havent approved the hunts so hopfully will know if thell be open soon.

Give Deedy a call at Bryson Hesperia Resort, I'm sure she can help you and for a lot less than that.

For an archery hunt like you're looking for, I'd recommend either Deedy at Bryson Hesperia Resort, or Chopper, over in Hollister.

Deedy's rapidly building a great reputation here on JHO, and while I haven't hunted with her personally (yet), I have no doubt she puts on a good trip.

Chopper, I have hunted with, and that's a great hunt too. However, I believe Chopper is pretty much booked for this year, but he has cancellations occasionally and can fill in. Best bet is to give him a call or email and see what's available.

Good luck!

There's also the Tejon hunts that are a great deal IMO at $400. 2 1/2 day hunt, food, lodging and a semi-guide for the archery only hunts.

Dang, Vaquero's right!

I still have plenty of spaces available for the June JHO/Tejon Archery hunt. You'll DEFINITELY see sign there, and you'll see pigs too. Getting an arrow in one might be a challenge (it always is), but it's a great hunt.

Speck, wish I could go, but OT has dwindled here at work so I'll have to wait a while. When is the next archery hunt planned??

Tejon stops the public pig hunts in June...ours will be one of the last until next year.

I'm still deciding on whether to do the archery hunts next year. Turnout for this June hunt will probably be a deciding factor. Always seems to be a lot of interest, but then I end up beating the drum just to get our minimum number.

In general, though, I believe Barbara will start booking archery hunts in February of 2008. Will know more soon, but she's still wrapping up the 2007 hunt season now.

Cal;

Give Marty Rovenstine a call his phone # is in the guide section. If its just your Dad the cost for his service plus a success fee should be around $400 a day. I hunted with him (see my post "heartbreak") and blew a great opportunity. He will definatly show your dad some big pigs. If you are ever in Texas for Business most defniatly take your dad there should be some good deals there.

Cedar Canyon Ranch (they have a web site) is in Tehachapi (?) mountains. The have plenty of pigs there. I hunt a ranch sharing fences and I see many hogs...on their side. They are a captive audience but it look pretty open. It should allow a great opportunity for success. Not sure of the cost though.

Good luck..
