Okay, so my "Nevada Resident" buddy calls me last night and asked if I would go with him on his Bull Elk hunt. Well, it took about 2 seconds for my brain to tell my mouth to say H-E-double hockey sticks YES!!! His tag is for hunt 4151 in units 131-132.

He drove out there last weekend to try and get the lay of the land as it was his 2nd choice and he is not all that familiar with the area. The hunt is from Nov. 12th - 27th so the Rut should be pretty much over and the Bulls will most likely be hanging in small groups and some loners in the heavy trees but that's about all I know. It's a rather large area with only 11 tags issued so the hunting pressure should be mild at least. We plan on staying out there all 15 days or until he fills his tag, whichever comes first.

Any information on the area would be greatly appreciated. It has taken my friend 27 years of putting in for his Nevada resident Bull tag to finally get drawn so we would like to be as well prepared as possible. There must be someone amongst the JHO family that has hunted in or is familiar with the unit and can provide a little insight.

Thanks and happy hunting to all!

Tell your buddy to get on the phone with the local Game Warden and Biologist for that area. I have haunetd Nevada a few times and have always found them to be VERY helpfull, and free with information.

good luck

Thank you! Yes, I'v already read and printed out that page prior to my post. It seems to offer a good overview of the unit and certainly gives one a good place to start.

Thanks, that's excellent advice and something I always try to do when heading out of state or to an unfamiliar area that I won't have the time/opportunity to scout.

We will definitely do our home work but I will not be able to physically scout the area prior to the hunt. My buddy might be able to get back out there one more time for a look see but I'm not sure.

All in all, aside from all the other prep work we will surely do, I was in hopes that one of my JHO brethren or Sistren might also be familiar with or have hunted the unit and could offer up some of their experience / knowledge that might slightly increase our advantage. I know, its a tough pull. Elk movement can be difficult to predict and they may travel miles a day. So, when all is said and done it can come down to just plain luck that we even see a nice Bull let alone, any Elk at all.
