To go pig hunting. I want to take my wife on her first pig hunt. I just got her into hunting, and into archery. This will be her first time hunting and I thought what better way to start than a pig hunt. Any info would help.

Do a Tejon management hunt and guide her yourself; there is one this month.

Hello thedriller,

Fort Hunter Liggett is probably the best place to get started with pigs? If the truth was known, quite a few of us got our start there, and it's well suited for family hunting with a campground and all. During recent years they opened up Training Area 13E with the Northern Section near Argyle Road an Archery Only hunting area. You don't have to park at the Tidball Store and walk the 4 miles each way to hunt the Archery Area. Along Jolon Road just before you arrive at Argle Road there is a street sign with a pull off. It's a classic.

My boy shot his first boar in Training Area 29 using 20 Gage Slugs. If I remember correctly, he shot that poor thing 5 times before it finally stayed down. That hunt was one of the most dangerous things I have ever done, and that includes the Vietnam War and being caught 40 miles behind enemy lines in Laos.

If you were to ask me if you should take a new hunter into heavy brush with a bow, I would say that you are exposing her to one of the most risky forms of hunting there is. I hunt boar safely on the Island of Oahu with a guide using dogs that have been trained for hunting boar. Having a dog keep the pig at bay makes all the difference in the World.

I'm glad to see that Squaw Valley ski resort is now one of Jesse's sponsors. I have skied there 5 time this year and the snow this year it's phenomenal. We are starting to call that place "Squawesome".

Well it looks like you are in Nevada. For the price you are going to pay as an out of stater i suggest you look at a Texas hunt. Lots of pigs good price and resonable rates.
Good luck.

Your best bet is a Tejon Pig Management Hunt. All things considered, I think it's the way to go. When I started, that's what I did, still have never been on a guided hunt.

If wife never been hunting, start with small game first. Too much blood and squeeeeecking in a pig hunt for someone from opposite sex who has never been to a hunt before.
