Hi guys, I am new here . I will be on a junket trip for work with Harley-Davidson this spring . I will be spending a week in Paso Robels for a seminar so i want to extend my stay to include a weekend of pig hunting. I was told about an army base down there or something, any one heard of it? how about leases for the weekend close by? I found one place in hollister but dont know if my dates will work out with him yet or if i will meet the minimum persons required. Any help would be great.
Please email me with any info

Schmalts,

Welcome to JHP!

The military base you're talking about is Fort Hunter Liggett. Do a search on this site for FHL, and you'll find tons of info about hunting there. Key things to remember are that you'll need a day pass which you must get through the mail, and the hunting areas may be closed at any time due to security.

There's also Camp Roberts, but I'm not sure if they're still open for pig hunters right now. Boar Tracks, a member here on this list works there and can probably offer more insight.

There are a ton of outfitters and guides in that part of the state. You'll be working right in pig central. Check out Jesse's main page for some listings for other guides. A lot of them will take solo hunters, and Spring is the perfect time to be there.

Good luck, and enjoy your stay on JHP!

Schmalts, I just replied to you over at hunttalk. I live close to Paso Robles, maybe we can hook up. I'd be in for a guided hunt or we could check out hunter Liggett. Feel free to e-mail me. I've been looking for a hog hunt for about that same time anyway. here piggy piggy. Shoot my inlaws even have a house at the lake right near Paso, so we could even go fishing or skiing.

I think the hunt at Camp Roberts is on the 26th and 27th of April. I did pm Boar Tracks and he said it was on for now. It can change with everything going on. I plan on being there.

Hi Schmalts,

Welcome to JHP.

Last October I went on my first guided pig hunt with a great guide/outfitter ~ August Harden with Cross Country Outfitters in Paso Robles.

http://www.tcsn.net/crosscountry/

I seriously had one of the best times in my entire life ~ it was so much fun!
We stayed in a motel in downtown Paso Robles, right on the main drag ~ a very cool little town.
However, we hunted at their family ranch which is located in San Miguel ~ which is about a 10 minute drive from PR.

It is beautiful country over there ~ we had seen many, many pigs ~ herds of them!
We seen lot's of deer, coyotes (shot me one!), and even several elk.

August is one of the nicest & friendliest individuals you will happen to meet, he is also damn funny!

He was very patient with me (me being a Rookie and all) ~ he explained everything in detail, as I was asking him so many damn questions (and taking notes too), but when it came down to finding pigs/hunting ~ he is all business!!

I missed several opportunities to harvest me my trophy boar (rookie mistakes), but I did get me real fine sow ~ the meat is sooooo tasty and I still have some in my freezer.

Had my partner film EVERYTHING with the camcorder and took plenty of digital pix.

Check out his website then give him a call.

HKE, or anyone, yes i would be interested in a group hunt. So far the dates i will be there are feb28th to april5th noon, not set in stone but 90% set as there is one guy here at work whining that he should be going instead. Although i am more interested in killing a couple meat hogs with a muzz loader or bow, a budget tusk hunt is o.k too. The weekdays i will have evenings free only. the weekend is wide open as i get there friday night, so we could hook up then and plan the hunt details better. Until then, i still need to find a good Budget meat hunt. I am looking at 150$ish area for meat hunts, as i dont need lodging. I would pay more for a big boar hunt though. any takers? info ?

Damat rat, thanks for the info. I looked up the web site but 600$ is a little out of my price range. Thanks for the info though bro!
I could care less if it has huge tusks because i just want something to do out there and would not mount it anyway. I would rather shoot 2-3 meat hogs for that price over one huge boar.
