I am trying to plan a hog hunt in the middle of Sep. Does anyone know of any ranches or private property that will let me hunt on their land??? I am willing to paid. I tried Tejon ranch but no answer, Cottonwood is booked, and Horn Canyon ranch isn't really my thing.

You might want to provide us with a little more information, like where your willing to travel to (I assume your in So Cal); looking for guided or do it yourself...

There are guides like Tom Willoughby, the Jack Ranch...

We are looking for a semi guided or do it yourself hunt. There will be 2-4 guys that want to hunt with rifles. We are all new to the pig hunt. But we don't mind a good hike and camping out. We wanted a place near santa barbara/ santa maria but i will go as far as the central CA. We live in the LA county. We are basically looking for recommendations.

Get in touch with Eric from Cottonwood Hunting LLC. He has put a lot of members here on pigs this year and is fairly reasonable on his price as well. Only bad thing is that he may already be booked til the end of next year. LOL

There are many guided hunts available. I went to camp 5 last December and had a pretty good experience. It's the only paid hunt I've ever done so I have nothing to compare it too, but I would say its a great place.

I'm in la, Tejon only way to go..... Scenery alone worth every penny.
Been a member 10 yrs plus and have hunted almost every reputable hog shop from here to Santa Cruz and have yet to see anything close to it...

Whats the membership cost and for how many months, how many pigs running these days?

oldchevy, you may want to check out guide Tom Willoughby on the central coast. Never went with him but if I was desperate for a guided hunt he is who I would call.

You can always try FHL or Camp Roberts if you want a real challenge :)

Tom Willoughby is very reasonable for a full guided hunt. The only thing is that he and his crew are so efficient most of the time it isn't as fun as a solo hunt but you'd learn a lot. With a couple buddies it can be fun to take turns getting pigs. If you want to go the semi/non guided route and can wait until the spring, you could check with Dede at Byron Hesperia Resort near FHL. She runs a daily package that includes access and trail cam footage that is a good deal. If you are new to pig hunting I would use Tom. He and his crew know how to hunt pigs and you'll learn lots about how to use the wind, glass, and put an stalk on the pigs. And probably most importantly how to manage pressure on pigs. Tom has access to many different properties and usually rotates properties to keep the pigs less pressured. You can use the basics you learn from Tom and crew for hunting pigs and other big game spot and stalk style.

I have hunted at Bryson Hesperia and that was awful. My bed had a penny and some old ear plug in it when I tossed the sheets back which means the sheets were not changed from the last guy who had hunted there, plus we saw nothing. Also hunted with Tom and that was a blast! Only problem is all four of you guys will be done with your hunt in an hour. He gets you on hogs fast

I've heard great things about Tom Willoughby being considered "the most experienced pig guide in California" but I haven't had the opportunity to be guided by him. I heard that Bryson's $200/person flat rate semi-guided pig hunts are not necessarily on the same ground as their guided pig hunts. I heard that their guided pig hunts are with Tom Willoughby. I just checked the Bryson website and it looks like their guided hunts dropped to only $500 and it actually names Tom Willoughby on the Bryson website--but I checked their hunting page and it still says $750 for a guided pig hunt.

I have also heard Tejon is some of the most beautiful countryside there is. I seem to hear the word "beautiful" come up a lot when Tejon is discussed. Again, I have not had the privilege of hunting there either!

Thanks Bret for the shoutout!

old53chevy, did you get on my waiting list? Sometimes when people email me I don't always match up their email address with their JHO user name. If you aren't on the list yet it might be worth it just to send me an email or PM asking to be "added to the list." No commitment for now, but when I do have some specific dates to offer you, I will email you and see if you are still interested. If so, that's when I would ask for a deposit, etc. For now I'm only guiding one hunt per month, and if you get on the list now, we would be aiming for mid-2015 for your hunt. It might be worth it just to be added to the list, because time has this way of passing more quickly than expected..., Next thing you know, 2015 will be here! The next hunt I'm guiding is late October with some of the folks from here on JHO (six hunters). I am hoping to fill a lot of tags on that trip, and I will be posting the results here in the forum, so keep an eye out for the thread!

If I don't end up guiding you, I'm sure you will figure something else out. If you are looking for an inexpensive hunt, maybe Tom Willoughby would let you bring along a "non-hunting friend." That would get two of you guys out in the field with Tom for only $500 total. Don't quote me on that price though-- I'm not sure what his guest policy is and I'm just going off what I see as the lower of two prices on the Bryson website.

Good luck!
