Went out first thing Saturday morning on another attempt for A Zone deer. Driving into the ranch I spotted a group of pigs, I had to fight the instinct to pursue them and remind myself that today I'm here to get a buck. They weren't far from some of the spots I had planned for my deer hunt, so I didn't want to push out any deer while going after these pigs. But when I ran into them again about an hour later, I just couldn't help myself. They came meandering back up the hill from below where I had first spotted them, and when this nice meat sow presented me with a shot I took it.
Funny part of the story was getting her into the cooler. After I got her cleaned up, my buddy helped me drag her up the hill and into the back of my truck. We put her in the cooler to get her iced down so we could continue our hunt. We weren't quite sure if she was gonna fit or not, when we dropped her in the snout was sticking up a little bit. So we did what anybody in that situation would do, and slammed the lid of the cooler hard enough to try to push her down and get it to latch. What I forgot about was the little mini-lid of the cooler within the big lid, you know to reach in and grab a beer without opening the main lid and letting all the cold air out. Turns out her snout was lined up right with the mini-lid, and popped it straight off when I slammed the lid down. After laughing our asses off and snapping a few pics, we did manage to get her all the way in with the lid latched.
Hunted the rest of the morning and later that afternoon/evening, and no bucks. Very grateful for my pig but was really hoping to take both in one day.
