certain areas hold hogs. check out near pozo or la panza or caliente mountains. I've heard theres hogs near Cachuma too. As everyone here will tell you, your chances of finding a hog are slim to none.

About 5 yrs. ago, an acquaintance went wild boar hunting in the Los Padres N.F. in the Lake Cachuma area. They bagged a 150 lb. wild pig. I guess it was the luck of the draw that they stumbled upon this wild pig ambling along in the forest. Probably moving from one territory to another. It is very unpredictable just like any public land hunting. Mostly a nice armed hiking through the outdoors. Fort Hunter Liggett or Camp Roberts or Vandenberg Air Force Base(if military or retired military) is the way to go in public land hunting. God Bless.

I've been to Sta Ynez mountains part of Los Padres and have seen some rooting along the river. But that side is a no hunting area as the campsite and this is within Sta Ynez recreational area. I was back a few months ago and the river was redrawn by the constant rains over the last few months. The area is rich in wildlife as I've seen bobcats and lots of deer. These critters don't even move out of their places when they encounter vehicles of walking persons. One forkie even ambled by undisturbed as I sit by a big rock.

Oops! Forgot to mention that a guy from Sta Barbara who I met in Dodge City gun shop told me that best way to hunt hogs in Los Padres is either through private ranch or with the use of dogs.

Anyone, I've seen a lot of turkeys too. Are they wild, or is it a turkey farm?

From your link, the area shown is huge. Wild pigs are not in all the areas shown. They are mainly nocturnal, transitory, and the odds of stumbling accross them is slim. As has been said try all the spots mentioned before, and take your chances. There are lots of people that have asked about this area and you might do a back search to get as much info before you go.
If you don't get out and beat the bush, you just won't know, now will you?

My buddy and I went last week, we didnt see any sign of pigs at La Panza. Our next trip to Los Padres will probably be of the 166. We scouted for two days and did not see anything.

Sbrady,
From the east, Highway 166 intersects Freeway 5, close to where Freeway 5 joins Freeway 99. Highway 166 travels westward cutting across the towns of Maricopa and New Cuyama and then it intersects Freeway 101 at the city of Santa Maria. Highway 166 is south of Bakersfield. Google up the website Mapquest and then enter the town of Maricopa and a nice map can be accessed. 'Nuff said.
