I'm going pig hunting tomorrow and to do some scouting. Can some one refresh my memory on the legal distance to hunt with a handgun near houses. I'm going to hike in a bit but there are some house near were I park. I'll be packing a 44 and buddy will be hunting with a bow. Thanx

Be careful. Some counties have passed more restrictive ordinances (e.g. Riverside County, 300 yards)

Specifically...

3004. It is unlawful for any person, other than the owner, person
in possession of the premises, or a person having the express
permission of the owner or person in possession of the premises, to
hunt or to discharge while hunting, any firearm or other deadly
weapon within 150 yards of any occupied dwelling house, residence, or
other building or any barn or other outbuilding used in connection
therewith. The 150-yard area is a "safety zone."

Its a really a pain if you try to be diligent about it, since it says buildings, roads, trails, etc. If a trail is 600 yards from a road the whole width is off limits. Cleveland National Forest says 150 yards and part of CNF is in Riverside County. If I had a good opportunity, I think I'd take the least restrictive policy (in fact, I have) and be prepared to argue the point in the unlikely event I got called on it.

Are there pigs in the CNF? If so, I didn't know that.

I didn't say anything about pigs, just minimum distances from strcutures and trails required to shoot. Last I checked, these rules were not species-specific.
