We went out tues. evening and saw nothing( several bucks though). Got up early weds. and immediately got into hogs. As a matter of fact, three of us seperated and we each got into hogs. The herd I got on was on its way to bed as it was blistering hot this week. I hurried around the back side of the mountain and got into perfect position. They were making a ton of noise and as I moved in I spotted two large boars on the hill maybe 80 yds out, ball sacks swinging in the early morning sun. As I crept in, a large sow appeared in the tall grass between us, maybe 40 yds. As I raised my bow, she began to blow, so it was now or an empty freezer. Just as I released the arrow, she turned to run and all I saw was my fletch sticking out of the ham. This horrible feeling began to take over, but I did see huge bright blood from the hit. She didn't go 40 yds and began to stumble, then fall! I waited 20 mins., no movement, so I circled up hill and spied her motionless. Dead! I found half my arrow(the fletch) and an exit wound. I could not find the broadhead half. She went about 140 lbs, and somewhat young...good eats. During the field dressing, I found the broadhead in a bad way, with the back of my left hand. No stiches but it could've been bad. Moral of the story? Just because there's an exit wound, doesn't mean there is no broadhead! Happy Hunting!

Congrats on the pig! One of the butchers back home used to always ask if the whole arrow had been recovered on bow shot deer for the very reason you cut your hand. Especially since the advent of replaceable blades. He said there is not much worse than finding a broadhead during the butchering process.
You've done one of two things I've always wanted to do with a bow, hunt pigs and the other is to hunt Elk with one.

I believe what happened was the arrow snapped and the broadhead end got pushed back into the hog when it rolled over. I got lucky twice that day!

My dad shot a good sized boar, just under 250, about ten or so years ago back in Georgia, when we threw him in the truck dad pointed out a nasty syst on his right front shoulder, while butchering we found about four inches of aluminum arrow with broadhead wedged about an inch from the ol boy's lungs, through his ribcage, anyway, they are tough little boogers. Congrats on the pig, I am still wanting to get after some California hogs with my Legacy, maybe after the baby comes......
