Lots of pigs this morning

A cold front has moved through the Houston area ... and it has rained since Friday night. Everything is soaked. Sunday morning I checked the traps. When I pulled into the gate ... I could see a sounder of hogs foraging about 100 meters down the road.

Then I had 6 pigs in one trap.

5 of the 6 were in the back section. I moved then all to the back ... locked it down ... re-baited the front. It was 45 degrees and raining ... and tomorrow is supposed to be 65 and dry ... so I think I'll wait until tomorrow to deal with them.

While re-setting the trap ... I looked up and could see a sounder of hogs foraging about 150 meters down the levee.

As I was walking thru a flooded area to check one of my traps ... I busted up a really large boar. He circled ... snorted ... and took off before I could get my camera out.

So all in all, I guess it was a nice way to spend a morning.

I am an Uplander guy from California. Just checking the new posts, I came across yours.
A couple of questions:
They look like domestic pigs. Are they ferral?
You trap them and kill them for food? I dont think it is allowed over here.

They are feral. Wild as could be. Because it was raining, they couldn't hear me. The sounder that I encountered after the pigs in the trap could have proved dangerous. After a few pics ... I stepped out and they noticed me and ran. Even still, I eased through the area ... somewhat concerned about possibly having to scamper up a tree if they attacked. With sows ... you never know where their small piglets might be and the sow will attack to protect them. When I get the pigs out of the trap or getter ... the pigs inside will attack and literally try to kill me. I will be armed and ready to get on top of the trap if a sow attacks.

I trap them as a hobby. But they are all eaten. I give food to friends, neighbors, the needy and accumulate and take shoulders and hams to a Houston shelter that feeds the homeless.

In Texas, you can kill hogs day or night, by any means ... as long as you have the landowner's permission to hunt. These are actually trapped inside the Houston city limits ... in a 12,000 acre flood watershed that has parks, soccer fields, baseball fields, equestrian area, remote control air planes, etc. It is surrounded by I-10, shopping malls and subdivisions.

I wish we could trap here. Norcal, I here Blackgold mixed with corn works pretty good

Corn. Acorns are everywhere right now ... but I caught these on plain corn. On one trap, I did add some acorn scent in a dripper which can help.

RLL, is your trap is in the same stretch of gravel road from last year i visited ? or you move it around.

Nice pics, trapping can be a lot fo fun. You never know what size you will get. Wish I was there to help with my dogs.

No, I moved it. This is a levee that I brushhogged about 6 weeks ago.
