I purposely tried to overexpose this dark-eyed junco to bring out some detail in its eyes. I guess doing that made the snow too bright.

And just a mallard hen… I wish it was a drake.

I plan on taking a trip to Maine this August to get some Atlantic puffin images... I'll be doing a lot of practice shooting before then.

Thank you for looking.

Like I said, nice job on these Paul. Not much you can to on that snow during the shot, but maybe in PP? I tried real quick with the snow.....not the best

Zach, that looks GREAT! Did you dodge & burn on a separate layer??? I wanted to try something with the image, but I was afraid I would mess it up. How did you do that?

Paul, I just did a quick fix. With more time it could be better. I used the select wand and set it to 15, then selected the snow portion on the branch. After I was happy with the selection, I used the shadow/highlight tool( I think, just going off memory, it's been a long day!) Then used the dodge tool to soften the edges. All on one layer.

I look tomorrow and bring it back up in CS2 and let you know for sure. Im just working off my laptop tonight.

I knew could adjust the intensity of the clone stamp and healing tool, but didn't know you could do it with the magic wand and lasso... I read up on it a little.

Thanks Zach, I need to slow down with my p/p and do things correctly.

Thanks Chris, the little junco's are hard to photograph and get a good exposure... you are right about having some sun light, it makes a huge difference.

great shots of the ducks Paul, on the Junco, you can use the lasso on the eye and then use hue/sat to bring out the eye better. I zoom in really large on the photo then use the lasso and hue/sat. Try it I think you may be pleased

Thanks H&W, when you use these tools are you feathering before you deselect? Every time I use the lasso or wand I end up with what looks like missing pixels where the dotted selection line was. It doesn't matter if I feather or not.

OK, I looked at what I did.

1. Magic Wand, tolerance 15, add as needed
2. brightness/contrast ~ can't remember the #s
3. blur tool around edges, 13 px, mode normal, strength 50%
4. Save As.....

Just a quicky, I'd do things a little different and take more time.
Good shots again Paul!

I have never featherd, I think that when the photo is zoomed in so large and you lasso and then zoom out it does not show up. Anyway it hasnt on mine. I zoom to where the eye is about the size of a golfball on the monitor.

Thanks again Zach and Hideandwatch, the information is really appreciated! I'll be trying it out on a few images that I haven't p/p yet.
