I was at Guns & Gear in Sacramento today shopping for a pair of binocs. Thinking about a pair of 10x42 Windriver, something in my price range. Just for grins I looked through the 10x40 Swarovski EL (you know- the $1200.00 ones). I didn't know binocs could be that clear. Gotta have a pair of those. My wife will never forgive me if I buy them.

THBaily,

You can always get the Swarovski SLC in 10x42, they are just as good for just about $700. She might forgive you sooner.

Hook- Thanks for the advice. Do you think I might get away with wrapping them up and making like they were really a present for her? Nah, probably not. I still remember that christmas I gave her the Remington 742...

Gotta agree with Gun Doc. You are now ruined for life. You'll never see things the same until you get a pair. Welcome to the club.

Fullsack I think you are correct- A pardon comes easier than a pass. With this in mind, anyone got an idea where the best buy is on the 10x42 EL's?

TH,

Before you buy one, try a guy named Jim Rockstead. He's in Atascadaro, Ca. In searching around for good prices before I bought my Leica's I found him. He beat the going price by a couple hundred bucks. He works out of his house but is a dealer for Lieca, Swarvoski, Zeiss, etc. he only deals in quality glass.

He can be reached at (805) 434-3567.

Sometimes he can be hard to reach, the guy hunts all the time, but keep trying it may save you some coin.

Just a thought on the wife issue - maybe tell her (and mean it) that letting you get these would count for your birthday, anniversary, and christmas presents. And if she does agree with this, let her be involved in the decision making process - you know, show her just why you need them. Let her compare the brands. This process usually works for me - that's how my husband gets all of his hunting gear. As a wife, it is important for my husband to have nice gear. He loves hunting and always feels guilty if he wants something like this. We usually discuss it and use money that is put aside for birthday and christmas to help buy it. He always shows me the product and we compare brands. I like knowing that the money goes to something that he really wants and will enjoy.

I just got some Leica 10x42. Oh baby I love it. I graduated from some compact wind river. This is planning to be a bino that will last me at least 30 years, ( I am 30 now). And no, the wife has no idea how much they cost.

This is my reasoning behind the expensive glass. "It will save me from a possible ticket, by letting me see the game more clearly"

TK- I wound up buying the SLC's last year at Guns & Gear. Paid in the 800's for them. Don't know if they are still available or that cheap any more.

I've got to go visit a vendor in Germany pretty soon and was inquireing about maybe picking up some optics over there. Guess what, I found out that they're cheaper here in the US. Go Figure!

Hey folks, I saved four years of gift certificates from Cabelas and finally was able to get my Swaros 10x42 ELs. It was rough sometimes watching everyone open gifts and knowing what I was getting every anniversary,Christmas, and birthday. However, now that I have them it was all worth it. This is my first year hunting with them. It did take patience but we are all hunters and should have that part already beat. Never be afraid to buy the Best, because you'll never be disappointed. I'd stay away, far away from Hot Buy Electronics. Their rating on Reseller Ratings.com is pretty bad. If you must have the cheapest price out there, brace yourself for some heartache. I don't deal with any company that has a rating of lower than 7.
