I have a buddy who is new to bowhunting and is headed to Maui the first week in Nov. He would love to do some hunting. Any of you Hawaii guys care to point him in the right direction? Maybe some general public land where he can start looking? Hogs, goats, axis, whatever. You can email me if you'd prefer. Much appreciated.

Do a word search on here for "Lanai" I've written in detail about it. In Nov I think most of the axis will have shed their antlers but you can shoot any deer all year-round.

I appreciate the info but he is already going to Maui, so he wants a place there that he can day hunt from while wifey sunbathes.

Both Lanai and Molokai are part of Maui County. Lanai is a 45 minute ride on the ferry across the channel from Lahaina Maui and Molokai is just a little further. Most visitors to Lanai are only there for a day and are staying on Maui.

ps
In 2004 I took my family to Maui for a week and at the end of the week we all went to Lanai for a ONE DAY muzzleloader hunt. The wife and kids stayed at the beach while I hunted. They all said that Lanai had the best beach of the whole trip and it was their favorite.
He can hunt axis deer on Maui but nearly all are on private land and they charge around $1,500 whereas Lanai is $50 for archery and $275 for rifle.

Yeah, I second Glass eye. Lanai is just a quick hop, and there are TONS of deer there. I went there in April and had no trouble getting two does with a rifle in one morning. I also second that it definitely has one of the nicest beaches, with very few people and generally very polite locals. $275 isn't anything to sneeze at, but you can't even get a crack at Axis anywhere else in the US for less. On Lanai, you can take three animals for $275... Best deal going as far as I am concerned. And the venison is unreal! I'm still learning how to cook it just right, but it is tough to mess up.
As for pigs and goats, I haven't been to Maui hunting, so I can't comment. I know there are threads here about just this topic though, so some quick snooping around should turn up some info.
