McCall Idaho Hunt

Hey,

Longtime lurker, first-time post here. Great site.

I am going outta McCall for a "Middle Fork A" elk hunt this year since I'm giving up on ever getting drawn on Tule hunts here. Has anyone hunted this area in the last couple of years?

I am wavering between horse drop camp and bush plane drop camp decisions. I'm going self-guided. I've had enough guided hunts to decide that I like it better. Any recommendations on either plane or horse are welcomed. I grew up riding horses so that's not an issue.

I welcome any help and always willing to listen.

Dave, No offense but over the last few years Jesse has basically "protected" the new posters from being bashed. Apparently you admit to being a long time lurker without offering any advice/opinion whatsoever. Anyway, I would be happy to offer the advice I have. Email/PM me and I'll share my opinions. As for others, you might want to return a favor, possibly with hunting opportunities in your local are?

Dave, I would not recommend going by yourself if you don't know the area.If you go in by plane you will need to know how you will get your elk out. otherwise horse is the best option. Also McCall area is fine but I would recommend the Beaver Creek area for Elk. Not as accesible, Excellent for packing in on horse.
