MDF group to create Redding CA chapter
November 11, 2002
Redding Searchlight
The Mule Deer Foundation, a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of mule and blacktail deer and their habitat, is looking to create a chapter in Redding. An informational meeting is set for 10 a.m. Nov. 23 at the Moose Lodge at 320 Lake Blvd.
The purpose of a local chapter is to host a fund raising banquet every year to raise money for conservation projects in California and the rest of the U.S. The Mule Deer Foundation currently has 69 chapters from the Missouri River west and last year contributed $196,000 in California projects.
The foundation was created in Redding in 1988, but is now headquartered in Reno. It is the only national mule deer organization working on chronic wasting disease. Mule deer are found in 14 western states and is the only big game species in North America that shows a decline in population.
To learn more about the organization, call Brian Tavolacci at 357-2044 or regional director Tony Baker at (888) 375-3337.
