Well folks, were back! It wasn't as productive as I'd hoped, but my son nailed his hog
<
It was a hot weekend, made the hogs bed up early and come out late. I think this was the main reason we didn't see many hogs. One other guy got a hog, the others seen some but they were too far out.

So, here's the story.

We got to the ranch at about 2:00pm, unloaded our gear, sat around camp for a bit and headed out at about 4:30pm. Phillip and I got to the area I wanted to try the first night. We walked for about a mile and a half, sat down for about 45 minutes to let it cool down a bit. Started heading back to the truck at about 6:30pm, we were walking in this open field, I looked up and about 200 yards out I seen a huge hog feeding. When I looked through my binocs, I could see a large grooup with him, probably about 20 hogs in all, and some big ones. I got Phillip layed out with his bipod down, then I noticed the hogs were feeding right to us, figured they would come within about 50 yards of us as long as everything played out right. The hogs feed down into a small valley and out of sight, we waited about 5 minutes then I seen the hogs feeding up our way. The wind was terrible, blowing from us to them, as the hogs came up and got to within about 75 yards then they winded us. They were all looking right at us, they new something was up, but wasn't sure what. All the hogs were looking straight at us, and had no good shot. There was one hog that was quartering towards us and Phillip was already set up on this hog. I told him to wait to let him turn a little more and then take the shot. As soon as the hog turned, BOOM! I could see the dirt fly off the hog, and told Phillip he hit him! The hogs took off and his hog bailed off from the group and ran back towards were they were feeding from. We headed over to were we last saw the hog to look for blood, but couldn't find any. We went back and followed the path the hog took from when he was shot, got on the road heading the same direction, finally found blood. Tracked it for about 75 yards, came up over the rise and there he was, laying down but still alive. We finished him off and now my youngest son has his first hog!

Here's a few pics, hope you enjoy!

The hog wasn't huge, probably about 150 lbs.

L2H,
Phillip and I hunted an area where I don't think you guys tried. When you cross the bridge, turn to the right and head up to the house. There's a gate there, we went through the gate and headed back towards the brige. We hunted the back side of a canyon call Rio Creek. I don't think anyone hunted the bowl area until Sunday morning, and I think it was a half hearted attempt. The only other hog shot was taken in the same area where Phillips was taken.

We are planning a trip again in November or sometime around there.

Mel,

When we were there one of our guy shot a pig just above the house you mentioned. But we didn't get too far back in that area. I think the Bowl area is only productive during evening hunt. We never saw pigs there in the morning but seen them there every evening. Seemed like they come in to the pond every evening.
