hmmmm.....

Recently I have been busy working up a nice hog load for my 8mm Mauser (K98) with a Hornady Interlock 170gr Round Nose and 195gr Spire Point.
I am now thinking of other cals that i have that would be usable on hogs.

Would anyone recommend 6.5mm? Is it too small? I have been thinking of Hornady Interlock 140gr Spire Points and 160gr Round Nose for deer. Would these be usable on hogs?

Any comments and/or recommendations would be very welcome.

Personally, I wouldn't go smaller than a 270. I use 30 cal myself. But, it's all in the shot placement too.

The 6.5mm it's fine, but the 8x57 mauser it's a better choice in my opinion

All about shot placement. But they just fall over to the .270 WSM at 75 yards with 150gr Balistic Silver tips. And yes I know that is too much gun for the distance but it's what I have.

I think that the best deer bullet is either the 125gn Partition or the 129gn Interlock. They also work well on pigs up to 200lbs. I haven't any experience using these bullets on pigs over this size. If I were after somthing bigger I'd probably use a 140 although these might be too tough for deer. I believe that the best compromise might be the 125Part. capt david
