CHEYENNE -- Hunters have a good reason to lift a glass after the hunt is over.
The Miller Beer distributors of Wyoming recently donated $2,900 to the Access Yes Program. The donation will be used by the Private Lands Public Wildlife Access Program to secure access for its walk-in hunting and fishing areas and hunter management areas.
Donations are generated from the purchase of Miller Highlife regular and lite beer. The distributors donate 5 cents for each case of Miller Highlife sold, and then match all proceeds.
“It is a way to give back to the people who are buying Miller products,” said Bill Stoval, of Stoval Beverage in Casper.
Access Yes donations go directly to the purchase of hunting and fishing easements. Donations can be made by sportspersons when they purchase or apply for hunting and fishing licenses. Organizations or individuals interested in helping provide access can also make direct contributions.
“Donations from organizations like the Miller distributors allow us to provide recreational access onto private areas”, said Matt Buhler, state access coordinator. “These donations go directly to providing hunting and fishing access in Wyoming.”
The participating distributors were Stoval Beverage, Jackson Hole Distributing, Metz Beverage in Sheridan and Gillette, Orrison Distributing in Cheyenne and Teton Distributors in Worland and Rock Springs.
In 2002, the PLPW is providing some 420,000 acres of public access to private land through walk-in hunting areas and over 560,000 private acres in hunter management areas. Additionally, walk-in fishing areas provide access to 58 fishing locations around the state.
