Hogs, not Javelina.  We'll probably be hunting in and around Fort Hunter Liggett in CA.  I've decided to go ahead and get a .270 -- probably a Winchester M70 Classic Stainless.  From the sounds of it, that should be good for a lot of other game as well.

The Classic Stainless is nice, I have one in 30-06. Top it with a good scope and you are ready to go!

Now if only I could find a dealer in So Cal willing to sell me one.  No one I've contacted has them and can't seem to find them.  Now I'm looking for a dealer that will process FFL transfers.

Okay, got the .270 ordered.  Finally.  Can pick it up on 2/9.  Two weekends of practice with it and then off to FHL!

Weird that no dealers around me had ANY .270 calibers at all.

Moondoggy,

I believe that the .243 restriction is for rifle calibers in handguns (ie T/C Contender).  I haven't seen any regs for rifle caliber restrictions, so I would assume it would be whatever the California DFG says.

Hi Neal,

As far as rifles, the DFG doesn't give limitations, just suggestions -- as far as I can tell.  FHL though does limit rifles to .243 or greater.  And since that's one of the spots we wanted to try....  Besides, I suppose I needed a rifle with a little more power anyway.

Thanks Fubar.  I've been reading here since the beginning, jsut finally got around to posting.  Jesse's place has turned into the best place on the net for California hunting info.
