Does anyone know what the minimum draw weight for hunting is in California? I cannot seem to find anything on this the only thing i have found is that the bow needs to be able to fire an arrow 100yds in a flat trajectory, but i have a 55# bow that would have problems firing an arrow 100yds + flat

You should be fine with a 55# bow.

The following information is provided if you are new to Archery tackle. If you are not new to it, it is provided anyway to those who might have some of the same questions.

For large game in California you should use a bow weight of 45# and up.

Maybe your arrow spine could be the culprit, if it is doing a corkscrew in flight it is probably the wrong arrow.

Just have a matching spined arrow to your draw weight and if hunting large game use a broadhead at least 7/8" of an inch wide at it broadest point.

Other than that have you bow checked to make sure it is truly putting out 55# in draw weight.

If using a bow with this weight your most ethical hunting shots should be at 18 to 20 yards when using a longbow, and up to about 25 to 30 yards with a recurve, a little longer when using a compound.

Practice in these ranges and try to apply those ranges to your hunt.
