Birthday approaching. Thinking about investing in a 15x bino, tripod set up. Minox 15x58 and Fujinon 15x60 are the only models I can find under $800.

Has anybody compared the two? Opinions? Rumors?

There are no shops in my town that carry these. So, I can't do a physical test.

Thank you.

One Track,

Take a look at the Oberverk 15x60 at bigbinoculars.com

I have a pair and used them in AZ. They are very clear, multicoated, rugged and only $110.

Hi Onetrack..
<

While I haven't used the model your interested in..I've been using a pair of the Minox compacts (8X32)for the last few years and think they are wonderful. German lens, armored, waterproof to 15 feet, and came with a 30 year warranty. I'd vote for Minox.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

In the quality and price range that I'm considering, Minox seems to take the cake. The Fuji's only have a one year warranty, while Minox offers a lifetime warranty. I think that speaks volumes about reliability. Minox is actually backed by Leica.

Thanks for the info.

Cous, I've been toying with buying a set of big binocs too rather than running with a spotting scope for both the 3D effects and ease on the eyes.

Didn't you own a pair of Big Steiners when you went out scouting with Duwayne Adams? How do they compare to others? $6k+ is quite expensive--but, I'd image the difference is remarkable. (At least I'd hope so~!)

Must have me confused with someone else. I have never owned the Steiners or met Mr. Adams.

I used to have a pair of Pentax 16x60's. They were very good for the money (appx $200), but I bought a pair of Minox 15x56's last year and it was the best thing I ever bought. I never really thought there would be that much of a difference, but I was very wrong.

Yah, those Minox of mine are pretty cool. I have never looked through the Swaros and I don't plan to for about five years.

I've looked thru two differnt pairs of Swaro 8x30 SLCs and the comparable Leica model. I just couldn't tell much of a difference in quality between those and a set of WindRivers I looked thru and I've got 20x15 in both eyes. Maybe I'd notice more of a difference in relaxed field conditions rather than with a salesman there hyping them up.

They zeisses I've looked thru seem to pull in the most light and were clear/crisp.

Cous> pardon case of mistaken identitiy. I thought you were the same fellow who posts a lot on MM--changed his handle from buranut to coues I think...something like that.

Anyway, looking thru a catalog last night, I noticed that the Zeiss conquest series has a 15x50--not sure about low light conditions with this model. But, @ $450, I'd go for it at a heartbeat if it had a way to mount to a tripod AND if I could get a doubler for one side of it.
