I went out hunting for pig! I was able to make it trough the icy roads and scout where I had seen lots of signs. I started hiking around 645am and saw fresh beddings and tracks. Yesh they are hear, my next instinct was keep on hiking and stay opposite of the wind. My little brother grabbed my arm and said do you hear that? I was like no! Yes listen I heard grout grout... WTF.... I told him that's loud. Lets Stay out and wait a few minutes. We started hiking and saw very fresh droppings. Out of no where I spotted 3 piggies! Yes my lucky day! Tried to be very careful and get within range as I had my 12 gauge And not my 30-06! Why did I take my 12 gauge And not my 30-06? I thought I would be a great challenge! My dumb ass got to excited that I thought I had gotten within range and in reality I wasn't. I guess they felt me and started walking, when I took the 1 st shoot and missed they ran and boom took my second shot and when I thought I had hit the boar I had missed again. Went looking for signs and nothing. 2 shots both missed! This really Sucks! I didn't want to push them away further so we stood still and only checked we're I had shot and no blood signs. I was really disappointed that I told my self never to go pig hunting with a shot gun! I gues it was not my luck! I will 100% go back with my 30-06 and hope to spot them again. I'll say 160-200 lbs!

Good job getting on the hogs. Now challenge yourself and make it happen with the shotgun.

Sounds like you had a good hunt even if you didn't fill a tag. I am in a similar situation, I have seen pigs on my last two trips but I haven't been able to get a shot because I was carrying my bow instead of a gun. This week I will go back with my 12 Gage and I probably will not see anything.

It's a small pice of public land that I am trying to keep quiet as long as I can. If people find out about it the pigs will be gone quick.

You'll get them next time...... and tell NO ONE were that place is. You did the time, and the pay-off is for you.

You aint the first one to miss a dang pig CHayito, at least you got some action. My last face palm was at Tejon. I saw this black pig rooting around in some fallen trees right at dark and he was under the oaks so it was really hard to get a good look at him, I just saw flashes as he walked around in the shadows. I snuck up to about 60 yds and when he trotted between two big logs where I could see him better I let it rip. BANG!!! ZOOM!!! Up the mtn he ran. We searched and searched and nothing. I think I lead him too much and buried the shot in the far log. It was a chip and I muffed it.

My first hog, I shot at it six times, missing all but the last shot. My last hog, I got at 400 yards with a single shot. Two in the middle were shot over dogs, so they don't count as "hog fever" potential. The first one, I was at fifty yards, and probably leading the pig a half-body length with a 7mm rem mag, traveling well ofer 2500 fps. The lead was quite excessive. The last one was off the bipod, down and across a canyon at Tejon Ranch, with the crosshairs on the top of her back at 400 yards, and the scope, even on 10power, showed a pig that looked teeny, but I heard her squeal all the way up the canyon after I fired, and she took a couple of steps, and tumbled down a hill, into the bushes. Her picture is on my profile shot. I think the pig fever was hard on me in the first case. I couldn't calm down. When I finally got to take a shot from a rest, the marksman took over, and I made the shot. So, the way to conquer or control the fever is to get all settled down, once the pig has been spotted, and not to let the shot go in the heat of the moment. In any case, now you know the rest of us experience the same adrenalin rush, and often let it get the best of us.
