If I can hitch a ride out with someone, I would volunteer my time. I do have a generator and a 1/2" drill motor. I live in Torrance, if someone out this way is planning on going out and is willing to take along a passenger.

I've run out for the guzzler repairs three times and the fuel cost is killing me. If someone would like to meet on the 15 somewhere, like at the McDonald's near Hwy. 138, and hook up & share fuel cost let's do it. I'd probably bring my generator, compressor, maybe some mortar, and various tools, oh, and two ice chests with LOTS of cold bottled water, so if we don't use my truck you'll have to be driving something that will be able to carry everything.

Looks like there is a ton of us wanting to go from Orange County and LA area. Lets hook up.
Vev: How much gas money are we talking about if we split it 4 ways?
I just tried looking up 15 and 138. Couldnt find it. Where is exactly 138?
Does anyone know how to set the time on this site? Mine is about 9 hours ahead.

I agree let's hook up and share the cost. I have a GMC Yukon that I'm willing to drive out there if I can get some riders. The air conditioner is kind of marginal but I'll see if it only needs a recharge.

Sean, The 138 is the highway in the middle of the Cajon pass where the McDonalds is located. Round trip is around 500 miles, or $100 in gas; depending on your truck.

Setting your 'board time' is found in your user profile. Look under the 'My Controls' link in the top right corner of the page, then go to "board settings".

All of Cliff's photos should be from guzzlers we've worked on this year. Started in March when it was so cold we could see it snowing in the New Yorks from where we were working. It was so nice to be working energetically and not having to worry about dying of heat stroke! Things changed lately. But the elevation of where we've been working has actually helped a LOT. Last time I was out there it was about 20 deg. cooler than Needles.
If anyone wants to hook up, let me know. I'd just as soon drive my truck since I have to dump so much heavy crap into it. Not really looking to have to transfer it from my truck into another, then do it again on the way back. I'm thinking it would cost me about $55 in diesel, tops, to get out there & back, with a bit more mileage built in to getting from where we meet to where the guzzlers are. Maybe less. Hopefully less.
Anyone interested, let me know.

For those going, think about bringing

food
lots & lots of cold drinking water
as much add'l water as you can schlep out there for guzzlers
gloves
cement trowel
large, thick trash bags for hauling away the crud we clean off the aprons
maybe a set of loppers or a small tree saw
sun screen of about spf 1000?

Sean,
My first name is Val. It's a nick name I picked when in the service. I'm taking my Yukon in on Wed. morning to check the air conditioner. I'm ready to go.

Val and Vic both want to bring your trucks?
What time do we have to be at the site? I am thinking of getting there the evening before and getting some decent rest before starting work in the heat. What do you think?
Looks like you guys have been there before. Can you fill me in the area as far as the games are concerned? I heard there are some good deer and Chuckars out there. True?
What is the name of the area we are going to?I like to look it up on the map.

Sean: I haven't talked to Cliff recently to ask where we're going exactly so can't tell you. Just scan a map of the general MNP and look for the Kelbaker Rd. intersect with I-40. It's maybe, what, 75 mi. east of Barstow? I'd guess the work won't be too far from there, north side of I-40. If I recall Cliff wants to meet at 0430. Splendid, Cliff. Remind me to say "thanks."
Going out night before makes sense, which is probably why I won't be doing it. At least not as my work schedule looks now. Present plan is for DKScott to ride out w/ me in my truck. It's a standard cab and more than two people in that thing is gawd-awful far as I'm concerned. Would be more than happy to meet & caravan w/ anyone headed out there, however.
Anywhere there is water you'll find game in the MNP from my experience, though it's admittedly limited. Gambel's on all the guzzlers I've worked on in the past. Many mtns hold chukar. Mixed bags of Gambel's and chukar are very doable in good years. Very little rain out there this year. Suspect birds were trying to survive, not mate. It'll still be fun hunting though. Plenty of quail hunters are going to shoot limits.
Some big deer have been taken out of those mtns. On the flat too for that matter from what I'm told. Ask Cliff about it.

I would love to volunteer on one of these trips, how often do they happen? Wednesdays are bad for me. I live in Victorville and I work at Trader Joe's in Redlands. If anyone is ever in the neighborhood stop in and let me know when you need some help on a Sunday or Monday (my days off) and I'm in. My name is Brian.
Thanks.

I will drive my Yukon and am willing to pick up some passengers if we can meet at a convenient place. I'm not sure where Corona is with respect to getting on the 15 North but I could probably stop by for Skunkhunt. Skunkhunt are you near the 60 or the 10 Freeway? I'm not familiar with where we are going and someone riding with me who knows the area would sure help. When we get firm commitments on whose riding with me I'll call Cliff and let him know what's cooking.

I am off the 15 between the 91 and the 60!

Can meet anywhere along the way for you!

I am about 3 miles from the 15 and the 91 about 1 mile from rahaugees! I am closer to the 91 than the 60 but only 10 minutes from the 60/15 interchange! At (near) the 60/15 there is a dennys to meet at or my house is open to meet at as well. near the 10/15 there are several places to meet. Whatever works!
