Mel, good detective work...

that's where I'm guessing too, or maybe, just maybe, X9A (over by the NV border). There were only four X-zones open this past weekend.

sounds like one hell of a buck. the #1 typical mulie in california is 195 7/8 length of right main beam 27 6/8  left main beam 25 7/8  inside spread 26 4/8  number of points right 5  left 7 taken in lassen county in 1943
Hey Duckman,

Where did you cull that info from? All I have is the CBH book but it lacks any rifle records.

Thanks, Backcountry

Don't underestimate X9b, D7, or D6. The laird buck came from D6 and scored 319. I have also seen a handfull of real whoppers out of 7 that made Pope and Young. They were scored typical but had plenty of deductions. I also know of one Dzone 4x5 killed sat that was 27 wide. When you score em you got to remember, you just double the small side, you get a width credit, but it cannot exceed the measurment of the main beam. Keeps bulwinkle out of the books. Any buck that big is a trophy, but some deer don't book at 35 wide and others will score well at 25 wide. If your going to start counting all the points you need close to 240 to make book as a non typical.

Hell yes I am waiting. I love seeing big bucks, at least get us the story and don't give us the cliff notes version.

I have see 2 deer, they where together that would go over 190 in california. I shot one that some guy said might go 180. I have never had it scored and have no idea how to.

Let see those pics

Okay, heres the deal. The buck will be scored this evening,i hope to be there for it.
<
The decision has been made by the hunter that no pics will be posted at this time.Once the almighty dollar entered the discussion, things got serious real quick
<
.Cant say as i blame him, considering the potential dollars involved with this animal.I did get my pics printed today though...
<
One damn fine looking animal. There are three people that have the ONLY pics of this buck, and i am one of those. An earlier poster purported to have pics of this buck......i think not!
<
I hope you all can understand the turn of events here, eventually pics will come out, just not at this time.

I can definitely understand his desire to keep it quiet, and if it is as big as you say, wanting to have the first story run in a mag for a few $$$. I would think it would have to rank in the top 10 or better for the rack to be worth any major $$$ though.

Good luck and congrats to the hunter and keep us posted with anything that you can

I still say what a JIP

I've had women who were not as big a tease.

You could at least say the zone.

I would guess x-9a or possibly 9b which has that Goodale hunt later in the year. Maybe the early snow pushed a monster down the mountain for the opener.

Does anyone know? Its not like we can all run out and buy a tag lol.

A story would be nice. At least tell us who he sells story to so we can read about it, when you know.

I understand completely………

Would've loved to get a gander at the beast sooner than later but,…………as we all know too well, when it comes to $$$'s "Money Talks & Bullsh*t Walks."

If his buck has a shot at a record score, he should by all means protect his interests. Besides the obvious value of the rack itself, there is the possibility of endorsements from every manufacturer of every piece of equipment used in his hunt. Everyone is gonna want a piece of the glory, that is, providing it turns out to be a true record breaker.
<

In the event it does not meet the requirements (we all wish him luck that it does) then please post the pics soon so that we can all drool together.

While we wait. Lets play a little veges. Who ever guesses right on wins like a pot or something. You have to guess:

1. Location

2. Weapon of choice

3.What else?

I say X-12, Rifle.

The chances of any California Mule deer making the B&c record book is slim and none. You got to first determine wether it is a Rocky Mountain muley or a California Muley, or another. There are boundry lines set up for this purpose. Just like for Blacktail for a Blacktail Buck to make the B&C it has to be taken West of I-5 in the coastal Range only because any Blacktail taken in the Seirra Mountains could be interbred with a mule deer. It gets very complicated.

However that still doesen't mean it's not a Trophy Buck

Congrats to your friend. Sounds like it will be the biggest buck taken in the state, but I would be surprised if it made any kind of record book
