Okay, I know this has been a long time coming. Last MC didn't have too many participants, so I figure this challenge should be a lot easier.

Now, these are shots you've taken while on hunting and fishing trips. Shots that you took when not glassing for game or baiting your hook. Those scenes you came across that made you stop and pull out the camera.

Post them in this thread with some descriptions and info on the equipment you used. Also, remember the 640 pixel on the longest side limit. I will have to delete anything over that.

Let's see 'em!!

This is a photo I took years ago while bowhunting elk in Eastern Oregon. My partners and I had hiked up into a high basin one morning and soon after we got there a thick fog rolled in. We were sweaty from the climb and started getting chilled to the bone, so we built a fire to sit out the fog. The next basin over had a forest fire in it the month before, so the elk were used to the smell of smoke. The gloominess of the photo kind of reflected our mood that morning because it was hard to tell for sure which direction an elk's bugle we'd heard earlier, was coming from!

This is my first try at this so please bear with me. This pIcture was taken Saturday morning 11-30-03 about 6:00 AM as the sun was rising over the hill top at Carrizo Plains. I was coyote hunting and the picture was the only thing I got to shoot. Using an older Cannon S300 in panaramic mode. This is actually 9 pictures stitched together to form this one.

I recently went whitetail deer hunting in MN during the first week of rifle season in Nov. While I was on my way back to my truck from my hunting spot, and durring a snow storm. I saw these trees and though that would make a nice picture to send to the wife at home since we do not get near this much snow down in Texas. As I opened up my Cannon G2 and pulled the lens cover off and snow got on the lens. I though oh no not my new digital camera. So I tried to blow the snow off which only made water so I then tried to wipe it off and thought I got all of the water off but to my surprise I didn't.

Now who couldn't love this picture. Sunset's though they are very nice and I have a couple of nice pics of those as well over looking Lake Superior I decided this one would be the winner for me.

Enjoy and good luck to the judges...all are very nice photos.

Great photos everyone. I like the effect of your photo shadow. treekiller, I like the atmosphere of your photo, it tells a great story. bou-hunter, very nice. I really like the 2nd one, both have great colors. MtnGoat, welcome to the monthly photo challenge. beautiful pano. I wished that I could have seen it in person, thanks for sharing.

Captured this photo on a [camping/fishing] trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Photos don't do it justice. This is Odessa Lake, coming from the Bear Lake Trail Head. It was about 3 miles in on our 4 day trek in the backcountry.

Your pics make it awefully hard for a hack like me to post up, but here you go...

Out a couple weeks ago in the San Bernardino mountains in So Cal, where you have heard about all the fire trouble. On the way out I snapped this view of all the dead trees in an area that didn't burn, yet.

Abe, that's a great shot. What settings were you using? Did you do any editing on the pic, other that resizing?

I have a 740 and love mine also. I just got the 1.7x and need to get and and take some shots with it.

Abe, Olympus makes a 3x, its called the TCON 300, the cost is pretty high (maybe more than your camera) and will require an industrial strength mounting aparatus.

Thoes are some nice pics guys.
I took this pic while duck-hunting on the edge of the Salt Lake. I have no idea how this stump got here. There aren't any trees for miles and miles. Anyway I liked the character of the old stump and thought the setting sun put a nice color to it and it contrasted well against the cracked mud.
I took the pic with my Panosonic DMC FZ-10, Auto
