More macro's

Just fooling around trying to take some macro's with Kenko extension tubes (not as easy as I once thought). This is a Russian kopeek, it's about the size of a nickle. The images are uncropped.

BTW, B&H Photo rocks when it comes to sending you your stuff

the other side, kind of worn without a lot of detail...

Does anyone have any tips to share for taking better macro's?

Zach, I used the 300mm with IS off + 1.4T/C + the full set of tubes (36mm, 20mm, and 12mm) on a tripod (Manfrotto 3021 legs that I bought 2 weeks ago and already broke a leg clamp today

I'll call them tomorrow for a replacement part), and a remote shutter release. Using the 1.4T/C was probably overkill.

Thanks Chris, I used a piece of 'foam board' for all of the images, it's kind of like construction paper glued to a 1/4 inch thick piece of foam (on both sides). You can find it anywhere like Wal-Mart or Staples. I placed a piece of glass from a picture frame on top of it today to hide the fibers and to give a little reflection, I was afraid a mirror would reflect too much.

Here's another image shot on the same base, the 'greenish/gray' color is from a near by wall that is painted olive.

Last one and it's back to work tomorrow

I used mirror lockup for this one and did zero p/p, I need to learn how to do USM properly... this image lost a lot of sharpness with the re-size.

edit- ok last one for real this time

Same image with an auto levels adjustment and USM of... Amount 150, Radius 0.3, Threshold 1. I can't see any halo's, is it just me? I'm always afraid of over doing it.

LOL Zach, a table-top studio would be nice, but farther down on my list of photo-gear to buy... Buying gear is half the fun

Also, I would much rather be outside taking images, I can't believe I'm looking forward to bug season.
