We've had lots of activity the last few weeks. The hogs seem late this year with a really slow spring. We are seeing large numbers of pigs in the hay field on North Base and up on Kumbar ridge. The grass is in good shape so there's lots of feed for 'em and the number of cattle is reduced this year. There are areas normally completely flattened by now that are overhead high with mustard.

180 lb. boar from C1 Saturday night (pictured). A 170 lb. boar and 160 lb. sow from C1 last Thursday (see pic in "motivation"). A 158 lb. boar last night from C1. A 170 lb. pregnant sow from C3 a week ago. We're seeing hogs every night.

The 170lb sow from C3 was not pregnant. May-July has always been my best hog hunting up there. I won't be back up until early july, look out deer, here I come!

She was either pregnant, or with piglets. That is their default status. She had piglets with her in May. We've seen her for four years punching out babies on the same hillside.

Ok, she was alone, and currently dry. Maybe had weaned little ones somewhere? Marc and Jason told me they didn't tell you where they shot her...(Jasons first pig BTW) There are certainly dry sows up there at times. This years rain might help them out though, hopefully. There is water everywhere!

He did tell me. She was very recognizable, but that's okay. He DID look at her; she had aspects of a boar. Little cutters, a ruff, and kind of shoulders. There were no little ones with her, but we see that all the time. Piglets are a trial to their mommas. AND, the grass is high. So, I bummed she's dead, but not particularly annoyed. And, good job to Jason on his first hog! You are correct; water is in all of the low places, and with no cows knocking stuff back, there's more for the piggies. And that's a good thing for us!

See you up here! I'm working the first and third weeks of July. I will be out of town on the 15th through the 19th. We will have a new combination for the cooler by then. Come by and see me if you can......
