My wife and I have had enough of California, both born and raised here, and are moving to Star, Idaho. I love to hunt deer and have hoped to go out of state for all of my 36 years but never made it. I hear alot about Colo, Wyo, Mont, Ariz, but not much about Idaho. I would love to hear some peoples opinions about this state and it's hunting(Elk, Mulie, Antelope, Moose, Upland, or Waterfowl). Not looking for honey holes just any old stories or opinions?

Quacker:

Congratulations. I'm trying to do the same, but the wife is only 50%. I do know that Idaho has a lot, if not the most, public land to hunt of any state. Something like that. Big bucks, good bulls, antelope, moose, birds, steelhead, etc. And, you will be much closer to the other great hunting states like Colo, Wyo, and Utah. Great place. Nice folks. I know Star got hammered with snow this winter. However, that area is usually much more mild. I'm envious. Happy for you.

Welcome to one good state to live in. It's not perfect but it has a lot of perks. There is an unwritten code in Idaho....always tell your friends how good the hunting and fishing is in the surrounding states. If they ask about how the hunting is in your area, respond with all of the good spots you would love to hunt in the other states.

As in any state the hunting and fishing varies from place to place and from person to person. The opportunities are incredible with bird hunting, muley and whitetail, elk, moose, antelope, turkey....etc. I've lived in Wyoming and in some aspects the hunting and fishing was better there, and I would love to try elk hunting in Montana, but things aren't bad here either. The diversity of opportunities rivals any state. One thing to point out...down in the Boise area there are a lot of people and it can get crowded. You just have to find the right spots, be willing to put some miles on to get to a secluded area, and as with anything...have a little luck.
