it goes like this,we take off saturday afternoon
after my daughters unbelievable basketball game in which they won 32-26!! i bribed her with the hunt if she won the game
we get to the ranch at about 4pm, roads are way to wicked for the truck so off comes the quad,we recon tell
dark, with know hog sightings, but my girl is quick to point out all the freah rootings and tracks
i say,well ,
what do think we should do in the morning?you want to try another property?she looks me in the eye and says, why would we go somewhere else when we saw all the sign we did?maybe they are coming out late at night, so i vote we stay here and see if we can catch um coming back to bed in the morning
this was the first of many "moments" i would have on this trip,
i say sounds like a plan!!we head back out at first light, i say o.k. hun, lets get on the quad and head toward the back half of the ranch, she pauses and says, daddy, why dont we walk this morning?i think if we take the quad,we might be scarring any pigs out
in front of us and we may never even know whats out there? this was "moment'#2. so, i get the duct tape out and tape up the
mud boots so they dont come slippin off while we walk in the extremly sticky mud{nate},if you dudes have walked in that
goop, you now what im talkin bout!!we hoof it up the mountain and get up there just in time to see all the turkeys fly off the roost,
including some absoulute monsters that we will absorbing some 3inch #4's in march!! we take a seat and let the world
come alive around us,we listen to the turkeys gobble away and witness a pretty knarly brawl between to longbeards. see a few deer in the distance and start to hear the quail call. no hogs.. we kick it for awile there. about 8am ,i say what do you want to do ?she tells me ,i want to walk!! i say, lets! off we go on the still hunt of the morning, we had overcast skys with cool temps,
the only thing hindering was the dang mud!! but we stuck it out,1 hour later{9am]we stop and start a serious glass recon
from a high point, when i her the soft whisper"pigs" i look over my girls shoulder and she is fixed on a group of hogs that are
making there way up the fence line heading for cover, they are at a fast walk at about 600yds coming our way!!i ask my guide,
what do you wanna do,she says, i wanna "get one" follow me!! im in!! i follow my guide about 50yds to the nearest bush
as she takes a knee and flags me down,i take aknee also ,she whispers, were gonna wait um out, there only gettin closer and we have the perfect cover! they will never see us"moment"#3, i deploy the bi-pod on {THE COW}this is what my daughter has
named my .300mag due to its color of the h.s.precision stalk that it has.the pigs are at 200yds now and closing,i whisper
is it time yet,she says NO! let um get closer! i say yes mam! i note that there are about 12 hogs,1 that was an absolute
monster that you could see ivory on at that distance naked eye, the rest were juveniles and a few wet sows,we had come for some "eaters"as the superbowl party is at my house this year,so we trained on the juveniles letting the trophy boar and
obviously the wet sows walk, these pigs are now within 75yds, and they are about to be engaged!!i set the rifle up in front
of my girl and she says,NO! you shoot um,im the guide!!"moment"#4, at this point there was no time to argue,i click off the
3 position safety, pick out a young boar,my daughter whistles, they all stop broadside and i send one...at the report of the rifle,
the young boar i picked out is stone cold dead, all of the others b-line it to the brush with the exception of the big black trophy
boar,he mad dogs us at about 50yds and you can tell he was thinking about it!! but it was in his best interest to hit the brush also, funny how the big boys actually think about giving it to you after one of ther buddys just got the hammer!!well ,we make are
way over to our hog and my daughter says daddy!! theres a pig right here in the bushes!! im standing over the young boar
and i say "what!" i walk over, and sure enough there is a red sow in the brush kickin!! as far as the e-tips go,they pass on thru
like the barnes, but at the range i shot i cant really hammer them to hard as i think any bullet would have done the same!
well. i administer the "coup de gras' and my daughter says wow 2 with 1 shot, i say ya,i planned it that way
the truth of the matter was that, apparently there was another hog behind the young boar at the report of the rifle, she got it too., good thing
i carry 17 pig tags at all times, you never know when you will need um
2nd time in my tenure that i have taken an
"incidental",these hogs were in the 120lb range, therefore killin 2 was allright with us. we hoofed it back down to the quad
and made our way back to the "meatsters" for some good quality field dressin time and pictures, i learned alot on this
trip from my guide,as we are packing up our rig,may daughter tells me ,daddy, thanks for taking me hunting! i say thanks
for being my #1 guide and hunting buddy
