I was headed out yesterday at about 11:00 AM to set out a video system where I had my visit with the grizzly bear the day before. Thought I would put a video system out and hope to get some video of him. While on my way to my stand about 1 km in on the river flats I thought I heard a faint elk bugle. I left my bigle in my truck but brought my cow call so I headed out in the direction of the bugle. I got to about 300 yards from where the stand was that I put up yesterday when the elk bugled again, about 300 yards away I figured, across the river.
I imediatley cow called him twice and he answered instantaniously, I waited and heard him crashing through the trees headed down to the river bank about 200 yards up and across the river from me. I was smart enough to pull the video camera out and try to record most of it. He hit the river bank and stopped to locate the cow. I cow called him once and he started out down the river bank towards me. He came about 20 yards and stopped, I got a reasonable look at him and thought he was one of the 5 points (per side) that we bugled in on the weekend so I thought I would play him to see how close I could get him to me and try to video the whole thing. When he stopped this time he bugled directly at me, I was in weeds about 2.5 f tall so he could not see me at all. I cow called him again and he headed closer down the river bank to me, he stopped about 70 yards upstream on the far river bank, stariing , trying to locate the cow he had heard. I called him once more and he had heard enough, he came straight across the river channel and stood on the river bank about 70 yards away from me.
While he was crossing I had a god look at his horns to find that he was actually a 6 X 6. When I seen this I had to put the camera down and get ready to shoot him so the video didn't capture the actual shooting. Bad part was I knew the whole time that I was 300 yards from wher I had seen that grizzly the day before. have posted a picture of hime and a link to the video, sorry it is a little shaky but I had to half stand crouched over to get high enough out of the weeds to video him.
