Damn you Texas girls are tough![/b]

Fresno, you don't know the half of it. They are the greatest. Best looking and toughest women in the world are in Texas. I know the one I married is.

Reminds me of the line from the movie the Rookie. "Honey, I'm a Texas Woman, I don't need a man to get by." Or something to that effect.

I do have to say though, if those girls can get a pig with a knife I might just have to give it a try.

Good job ladies.

I don't mean to question somebodys hunt, but how do you get a hog of that size ( or any size) to stay put long enough to stick it with a knife? Especially with dogs nipping at its heals. Anyways if it is true congrates I'm impressed ( and single) J/K.

Raully, It's definately for real. I've seen it done on the Outdoor Channel. If I remember right the dogs are more or less holding the pig down when you come in with the knife. I may be wrong though. Either way I may have to give it a try.

If you want to see how it's done... go to this website Boardogs there are 4 videos in the middle of the page. Click on them and be patient! There's volume on a couple of them.

Glad cops use german sheps instead of these guys! Notice the chest protectors on those Dogos to protect them from those big bad boars?

Here's the home page, it's got a lot of info. Hog Dogs

It's not for me... but if it floats your boat, and it's legal...

raully... there are a couple of different kinds of dogs used for this type of hunting, catch dogs and bay dogs.. We use catch dogs that corner the pig and grab ahold by the ears or anywhere in the facial region.. We then come in from behind and grab the back legs of the pig(sometimes, depends on the situation) and the other person sticks it with the knife... It is as fast, if not faster, than a rifle when done properly... Not to mention a heck of an adrenaline rush as satchmo will attest.. It is really a lot of fun to do at night....

You can also catch the pig live this way for transport... We do this when training the pups...

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the congrats, like I said we are all still elated about this hunt!

To
answer a couple of the questions, I used a SOG Bowie with a 7" blade. For the big
boars it has to be at least 7", they are thick and tough! We got that big pig in
Nixon, TX east of San Antonio, the one from the picture here was also east of San
Antonio in Weimar, TX. No foolin' here! We are a little cleaned up, Barbara and I
did change clothes, but Michelle, on the right, is the blood and guts type, notice the
blood on her white shirt, she had been wearing an over shirt for the chase but took
it off for the photos. Getting one with a knife would be kind of scary without the
dogs, I can't imagine jumping out of a tree down on one's back and slitting its
throat, but if anyone wants to try it I want to hear about it! The bay dogs find it,
and when you get there you slip the dogo/pit crosses and they go in and grab it by
the head, and they don't let go! You go in and knife it behind the front leg into the
heart, if done right, kills them quicker than a bullet, in most cases. Here is a
picture of my first, smaller, but not a smaller experience. And again thanks for all
the replies, Cathy

Two "Wows" one for the hunt method and another for the Huntress(s). I am truly amazed.

Congrats on sticking a nice one~!

I'd like to try sticking one with a surplus WWII bayonet with a 9" blade that I have when I make it out to Hawaii or Texas--blood gutters and all for easier removal if a second stick is necessary.

Now I know where heaven is located... TEXAS!
<
and so do you Cathy. Congratulations! And I thought Hawaii had the market cornered in beautiful huntress'... I stand corrected.
<

P.S. Knife hunting with hounds is the prefered (and legal) method of hunting hogs here in Hawaii, with probably the majority of pigs collect with this method.
Next time your in Hawaii surf lessons, and pig sticking are on me!

Yessir Fellas,
That's surely how they turn out in Texas...when raised proper..."Beautiful", AND "Capable"!!! :) Cathy, you gals did a fine job on that Hog...a real "Collective" effort, good huntin' to ya'll in the future and welcome to this here forum! My cousin married a fella down Paris,TX way, about 20 yrs ago and she couldn't be happier if she was twins! If I ever get out for a visit to those parts, I'd like to try stickin' a Hog with the K-Bar I carried in Nam'...works just dandy on partin' out a Deer or Elk! Keep yore' blades sharp, ladies! :)
