I have been hunting for two years for hogs on public land in California and finally connected.
<
I was hunting at Camp Roberts with my hunting partner today and saw a small herd of hogs and could not close the deal.I was getting a little disgusted with myself stopped to have a sandwich. Just happened to look to my left and over the hill came a herd of good sized pigs.Dropped the sandwich and grabbed the gun. Running to cut them off. When we got within about 150 yards they were gone.I looked up the way they came and here comes this one. I sit down take aim and shoot a good hit.He runs like nothing happened.I shoot again he turns and runs the other way .I shoot again he goes down and up again. To make along story short I shot 8 times and connected with 6. Five killing shots one leg shot. this is the first time in 15 years of using X bullets that they have failed to perform for me.Needless to say Barnes will here about this Monday morning. The pig field dressed 150#. will post pics as soon as I can get them downloaded.

Very nice. Sometimes it takes that many shots just to land one. LOL. I'm still looking for mine after almost three years of pig hunting!

Congratulations,,,,,,,at least you're honest about how many shots it took while using copper. I have often wondered whether it would be suicide using copper on a 300 pound'er at close range? A few years back, my teenager needed 5 shots with 20 gauge slugs to bring down a small boar that didn't have tusks yet. Needless to say, now the 20 gauge stays in the gun case. Maybe we will have to switch to heavy magnums?

That's a neat hoist rig you got there. Is that one of the rigs you buy ready made or did you make that yourself?

Nice hog, too!

Congrats on the Camp Roberts pig, that can be a great place to hunt pigs. Does anybody have any other reports from CR? I haven't hunted it at all this year, how has it been? Have they taken a fair amount this year?

Great job on the public hog. You said that this was the first time that these bullets didn't perform for you. Have you shot other hogs with them and they did fine? Or was it other big game animals and if so what have you shot with them?

This is the first hog I have killed with the Barnes. I have killed Sitka Blacktails, caribou,Moose,Whitetail Deer with them and never had one fail to expand and do massive internal damage. I have friends that have killed Brown Bears one shotkills with massive internal damage. These round went right through bones and did not brake any of them.Very disappointing.

Congrats on the hog! Good thing you didn’t stop shooting. You probably would have second guessed your first shot when it just ran off. You probably would have walked over to where you shot it and found no blood trail. Barnes bullets suck.

Congrats again.
