My son has only taken a spike at Grizzly so on our trip this year to CO he decided to spend the money on a bull tag since the season was later than usual. With the weather I thought it was a mistake, but I know how it goes...can't kill a bull without a tag. We were back in camp midweek afternoon standing on our lips because the hunting had been so slow with only 2 of 6 deer tags filled. My son's friend said he was going back out for an afternoon hunt and after only being gone for about 15minutes came roaring back to let us know he just saw 2 bulls run into the junipers. I guessed that they would stay fairly low and maybe go uphill slightly so we picked a ridge well ahead of them, spread out and found a spot to sit and glass. In a rare instance when everything comes together my son said "dad, there they are!". They were on a dead run coming across a higher ridge across from the one we were watching. I said "well, when the get to the bottom they'll either go up or they'll come across right to us so get ready watching the top of the ridge". For what seemed like an eternity, I spotted the bulls reach the top of the ridge we were watching and came to a stop looking directly at us. I said "you better do it now" and he pulled the trigger and we watched the bull fold up. The other bull ran about 60yds and then stood there...but of course I only had a cow tag in my pocket... He said he cried a little when he got to the 5x5 bull and I told him that if you ever lose that emotion then it's time to stop hunting. CO Matt.jpg

VERY cool! I agree; if you lose the passion, just resort to memories. Good stuff!

My goal is to take these youguns' out to give them that adrenalin of hunting..... then when I can't hunt anymore ......... I will live in their successes ! .... and cook them some some good grub after the hunt ! BTW...... I have some vennie steaks marinating now for the grill. With veggies and some nice rolls heating on the wood stove . Just good stuff . You all Teach our young folks to do this !
