After a year my time is here. We're leaving at 9pm tommorow headed out to Colorado. I'll have a pc with me in the room and will post up any animals taken. We have 2 cow tags, one buck tag and 2 bull tags.
Bet that Lazzeroni can really reach out and touch someone. Years ago, my group used to hunt east of McPhee reservoir on Haycamp Mesa and north of McPhee res. around Glade Mountain -- both areas were good for deer and some elk at the time. Later we started hunting east of Grand Juction and concentrated more on elk. I really liked hunting the flat top plateaus compared to up and down, thick forested D7 here. Post some pics of anything you see, including scenery, it's beautiful up there this time of year.
We hunt Haycamp and Glade too. Sage Hen on the other side of the lake too. I will post some pics in a couple days. Simpleman missed a buck with his first shot (lazz warbird) in Idaho last week. He ranged it at 486. Held a little over it's back and shot right over it's back. His pickup shot done the job. He will post his story and pics when he gets back home.
Here's the deal. Deer are everywhere. No elk to be found. We've been high and low. From about 10,000 down to 7000. I've seen more deer this year then I ever have. Mitchell(viper@jho) has a buck tag. We start hunting in the morning. I'm going to work on him putting one down before messing with the elk. We've been 100 yards from some shooters. I just hope the elk come down to visit. This year I drew a cow tag just for the sure thing. It might not be as sure as I thought. I have 7 days to get one. Wish us luck!!!!
I messed up. Having hunted here for years past I failed to read the regs as closely as I should have. This year we need to carry our hunters safety card with us. I have been checked by the warens before and never asked for it. I put Mitchell(viper) on a nice buck this morning (before we knew about the rule). I thought he was going to take it. About 180 yds out broadside. Gave him the go ahead. He sqeezed off and...................................click. I thought it was the safety going off. I have never had a handload that I reloaded not fire. By the time he reloaded a round the buck walked off. I was informed by the nice game warden that if he'd of taken the deer without his card it would of been a $1600 fine. So I guess the man works in strange ways. Never the less, our cards are being overnighted to us and we'll get him on a bigger one. In 5 hours this morning we seen 39 deer. 4 legal bucks. The weather here is pretty hot. Today it got up to 51 degrees. Have a good weekend and Go Chargers!!! Animals 3 hunters 0 (for now)
If you are close to a DOW office, go there and have them verify your Hunter Safety in the computer. Then it will be printed on every tag you draw in Colorado and you won't have to carry it.
Must be nice to be able to post while hunting, I guess you are not roughing it.
Cda55,
Regarding the Lazzeroni Warbird, I read an article about long range shooting by Lazzeroni with his lightning fast ammo. He stated that the computer generated ballistics chart does not apply because at the range, shooting at long range he found out that the super fast Lazzeroni bullets DO NOT DROP as much as the computer generated ballistics charts PREDICT. He said that was the case with the actual results of his long range shooting. So his advice is to go to a range and shoot at the long ranges that you will actually be shooting at. I guess that the slight angle of elevation necessary to compensate for the long range plus the super fast velocity gives the bullet a lift effect(sort of like the "angle of attack" on an airplane). This has the effect of reducing the bullet drop. Hence a miss, with the bullet sailing over the back of the target at long range. 'Nuff said.
The nearest office is in Durango. I might go by on the way out of town. I could of had them verify it Saturday by phone but CA DFG is closed.
Larry, I have read the same thing. I don't think I'm going to be doing any 600 yard shots at my cow. In the years past I've had them at 200 and under. Simpleman missed his Idaho buck this year (first shot) at 486. He held it right at the top of the back and shot right over it. Caught it on the run with the crosshairs on it and hit the mark. I can't complain about the warbird. Super fast with little recoil. I handload so I know how much powder goes into it. Another thing that I like about them is Jim Lazzeroni will talk with you if you have any questions at all. I sent an email to them asking for some info on the gun because I was concidering buying one. In about 15 minutes Jim Lazzeroni called and said he was sending out a packet. If I had any questions don't hesitate to call. His brother John does all the gun shows and he takes care of the office.
