Keep it up! If I had vacation I would go help you out. Your going to be in an area that does have a large herd, keep after them and you will find them.

Ok we found the huge elk herd. I climbed the tallest peak in 15 and glassed my surroundings. I saw the herd deep in 20 about 3/4 of a miles from the hill top I was on. The herd was heading towards 21 but I was told they work that part of 20 going back and forth between 15 and 24. So tomorrow morning we are going to cover 15 and 24.

On another note, the new truck did great the past 2 days, then I drove it home tonight to Monterey parked it the came back out a few minutes later to move it and click, the starter was dead. I have an extra starter but I could not break the bolts off the old one to swap it out. Talk about bad luck, well at least we did not have this problem back in the middle of fhl.

Tomorrow we drive the subaru baja, but no worries it is great off road too, just not as much space.

We wish us luck!

Ok I have 43 elk in my sights, but they are in zone 20 between mesa coyote and 24. They are bedded down and have been for 3 hrs. I know they will work back to 24 or 15 so we are just camped out waiting on them to move. IMAG0943.jpg

They are still bedded down. I have a nice comfortable place I am laying down on top of a hill, just glassing them, perfect cross wind so no worries about them busting me. My wife is a little was back behind me waiting for me to tell here which direction they are coming from.

Well sorry to let everyone down, no elk today. They would not move out of 20, and yes maybe I took a cat nap or two while watching them but they stayed put. I decided to try and give them a push around about 4pm. They started to move towards the corner of 24 but would never cross that road. I got with in about 250yds before they winded me and started getting spooked. I tried to push them towards my wife but the never seem to run the way I would expect them, they parallel me ever time. They started to move away and by that time I knew there was no hope of getting them into 24. I wish fhl would just open zone 20 for us so we can seal the deal.

We have a different game plan for tomorrow. After talking to live2hunt on the phone we are going to try a few new areas. We are going to let the herd in 20 rest for a bit and try hitting some nooks and cranies in 10,12b,25 and 16. I am also going to bring my bow tomorrow that herd in 16b has just been sitting there by the fence along mission rd.

We are getting kind of down to the wire but we still have high hopes. Thanks again for everyone's words of advice and encouragement. We will not give up! Also and help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Thomas and Cheri
