It was a quick but fun hunt, we got into the middle of a big herd, bugling and going crazy! We ended up causing a stampede and there must have been about 60+ elk(minimum!) we waited and followed them up over a rise, ended up catching up to them, sat a listed they started bugling again, we could see two bulls on mature 5x5 and a 6x that was busted off just about his third on one side, we heard one additional bull with a real throaty bugles off to our right, through the junipers, we waited until the herd filtered off and then moved in on the bugle to see what it was, we could see an elk through the trees, moved again so we had a clear view, but then he seemed to disappear, we just waited a few minutes and then he came back out at 87 yards, we were looking at his right side and he looked pretty good, but his third was broken, Melisa shot him and he went about 30 yards around a juniper, we could just see him under it, when we went over he was pretty broken up on the other side, he was also really torn up on the back of his neck, missing lots of hair, blood scars, his left ear was freshly torn and dripping blood, a real fighter! Melisa is very happy with him and we had a hard day of breaking him down and packing it out, 2021 ELK 2.jpg 2021 Elk 4.jpg PACK OUT.jpg Packing out 2.jpg
