Interesting about landlocked national forest it might be prudent to do a search of county land records cause there has to be easements that allow access,in areas I've hunted I've seen new cabin owners who have a very small lot post miles of roads and federal property locking gates on property they don't own and many are afraid to challenge them.

There are many people who post public land as if it were their own, just to scare off would be intruders. If it public land and has public access to it, no one can stop you from going there. The key word is public access. Of course if you have written permission to pass accross a piece of private land to access the public, great for you, all the better.
As the polulation grows so do those wanting to use the remaining public lands. We are starting to see some conflicts between OHV users, cattle ranchers, and the hunters. The numbers of liscensed hunters is getting to be less every year, especially here in CA. And as more and more antis buy the range land for grapes or homes, they are posting no hunting everywhere. It is only going to get more difficult in the future...

I agree with Gunner and Hunthard. I know them both well and they would never point you in the wrong direction. CR and FHL are the best places to hit around here. I am ready for a weekend out in the field. May have to join ya fellas. The Warbird needs some action!

scr83,
I 'd love to know where those spots are just so I could go there and and access the public land.
In a Cal hog hunting book I read that not all of these landlocked spots have easements and that there is a guide service that tracks herds in fly overs and actually will fly you over the private property and put you and equipment on the pigs and come back to pick you up and help you load out too.
I don't know if they keep the camping equip set up there or what.

Maybe somebody should do that and investigate the public archives to find easements on all California landloacked NF then write a book on it.

Isn't there a law in the Regs that say you cannot hunt for 48 hours or something like that after you have done aerial spotting or tracking? Just curious since my dads a pilot and I could get him doing some recon for us up at tejon and surrounding areas.

Hey again everyone. Well, here's my latest delema now. Myself and two other friends were making plans to meet up with one of these JHOers that posted above and head out near Carrizzo Plains, but his work plans changed and cannot make it. So that means we can call off the hunt (yeah right), or do the hunt without him. I know for sure that I don't want to be stuck home doing yard work when I can be out taking my gun for a walk, so the hunt will happen!

What I want to find out is anyone available the 29th of this month to help us out. What I mean by help out is show us the area. If you have hunted this area (successful or unsuccessful) and have nothing to do the 29th, we would love to meet up and hunt.

Since it isn't that much further, maybe even a vandenburg AFB hunt isn't out of the question. The three of us are non military so reading the post above we would need three sponsors to get on the base. CR and FHL I think are just too far for us to go, as we want to make it just a day thing (sun up to sun down).

If anyone can help us out and needs an excuse to get out and look for some piggies, let me know.

Frosty

surfwest,

my 2cent's worth says you'll have better odds in public land with a dog. well, except FHL where they don't allow it, 'cept i've seen two dogs running around TA 25 this weekend.

if FHL has success ratio of 6% (my humble and unscientific estimate) where pig signs are all over, i would think other public lands would have less than 1% chance -- unless you already have your own honey hole.
