My uncle lives in AZ and has for a few years, he would like me to come and visit sometime, so i figured if I was going to take a trip I might as well hunt while I'm there. It probabaly won't be this year as I won't apply for a tag this year, but i plan on visiting him when I draw a tag.
I have been trying to get info on AZ hunting, but the AZ Game and Fish has their stuff on pdf and my computer doesn't like that.
Anyway I have questions.
I want to hunt antelope, mule deer, and elk. Elk is not as important, but I will take it if I can.
This is sort of a one time deal, because I hate traveling and AZ and PA are a long ways apart.
Anyway I plan on hunting around Cottonwood and am primarily looking at 6A and 6B. I can hunt with a bow, muzzleloader and rifle, so that is not a limiting factor.
From what I can tell all tags are on a draw basis correct?
What are my chances in these area's? Of getting drawn and shooting something?
What about hunting on indian Reservations? i know some states leave that up to the tribes?
Any information that I get will be helpful, because AZ is one of the states that I know least about.
Even general hunting tips will be good.
I know elk are big and will probabaly need quartered, and I do not frown at hiking a long ways if need be.

With AZ, you have to buy a license if you want to get a bonus point. It is hard but not impossible to draw with no points. Give them a call for the regs or have your uncle get a copy for you.

Antelope is going to be your hardest draw next to Bighorn Sheep, Elk tags are hard to come buy as well. Mule Deer tags are a bit easier depending on what Unit you want to hunt in.

Arizona is on a Lotto Draw System. You can apply via the internet or on a paper form. You must purchase a license to apply for any big game hunt. There is an option to be issued a license only if you are drawn. Unit 6A is one of the hardest areas to draw for Elk , and has the highest number of applicants in the state. The White Mtn. Apache Tribe has some hunting , but it can be a bit pricey. If you get an Elk on the ground you had better be prepared to work. The gut pile will weigh as much as some Whitetail Deer

P.S. You only accumulate BONUS POINTS if you are not drawn. You can get a Permanent Lifetime Bonus Point if you sucessfully pass a AZ Hunter Education Course.

Good luck to you and good hunting
