i live in Kern County and would like to hunt pigs for meat. I have not been on a pig hunt b4 and want to learn as much as i can. I have been told i can pay big bucks for sum hunts and not even get a hog. So i hope to learn from some ppl that really know what or how to do things. I also have been told in the past about going to farms or ranch land to hunt. Mayb i will agian make those friends. At the time i knew these farmers. i was not ready or wanting to hunt. Now I am ready and cant wait to get out there and get sum dinner. Thank you for any and all help i may get.

It is hard to get free permission to hunt on ranches almost anywhere these days. The ranches now require a fee to take those non native species they once allowed us to hunt for free. It is all about money and how to keep the ranch alive...

good luck, so far seems that you can get help on this forum by giving you a start point to an area where a local can point you on the right direction if you have a kind and suave method to talking to people. I.E. i was lead to head to a area north from bakersfield for pig, not a honey hole but once i talked to someone, they told me to go somewhere and then again and again, almost like a detective with a BOLO on a pig. haha. good luck. i guess moral of the story, get out and get you boots dirty and get ready to talk to people.

I live in Bakersfield and have had no luck with locating any pigs on public land around here. I was told that there are some pigs in the national forest just above glenville off the 155 near alder creek. I checked it out a couple times and never saw any sign, just a few does. Every once in a while i hear of people spotting hogs on the carrizo plains in the winter months. Its too hot and dry for them in the summer there. I quail hunt the carrizo plains area in the winter and have never came across any pigs, although i always really wanted too. My buddy said he spotted a huge solo boar while quail hunting there. I have also trekked around the los padres national forest area off the 58 towards santa margarita and havent had any luck there either. I think the land that is between the carrizo plain and los padres nf is called chimeneas ranch, or something similar. Its owned by the state but they only allow hunting some times so check out the web site. I have not tried that place yet. The caliente area has some pigs but its all private land. All the guys that know where the pigs are dont want to give up the info, and i dont blame them one bit. Im sure they have had to work hard at finding those spots and dont want to see them over run. I have gone a few years trying to locate pigs close to home but haven't had any luck so this year im going to try fort hunter liggett and see what it has to offer. Good luck man and if you find anything let me know!

Lots of hogs in Kern County just get out your checkbook. Write Tejon Hunt on the pay to line.

lol... i dont want to pay them to hunt... i will find sum one else that needs the money. I talked to tejon at the sportman show. At the time the ranch was closed cuz of trouble with not doing the right thing. i think they paid the fines and are open agian.. but sounded bad to me.. and they are to big already... dont need my money... My dad used to know farm land close to Tejon but a friend owns it... so mayb we will cut a deal there. thanks

So do you want to go a to ranch that charges you for a kill only or are you looking for a cheap, unguided hunt option? Either way you're driving a ways.

Kern County, on public land,......like looking for Bigfoot........

You can try Google Earth with a BLM land overlay, but you'll find what looks like good hunting BLM lands, but they will be land locked by private property...

I've seen some pig West of the Kern River North of Hwy 178, crossing FS 25S03, but between the private ranch lands 5 or 6 miles South of where that road finally enters the Sequoia National Forest to the North. However, during the hot Summer months, one might get some exercise exploring the springs at the higher altitudes, just inside the forest, in the Oak Flat, Saturday Peak areas, 4-5000 ft.
