Was gutting a deer beside a fence this past weekend and nearly droped a pile on top of a small shed. Will post a pic in a little while. It appeared to be from this year, and really suprised me to have already droped this early. This was the first shed I personally have found, but have seen a lot of 1 horn bucks around here in late January up thru February. My question is, when do most of you seasoned hands start to find fresh or new sheds?

A weak or wounded buck will drop them early. This might be the case in your situation. I found a dead buck a couple years ago and when I tried to lift the head(skull) from the body, the horns broke off just like sheds? I think he wass wounded for a while before he died, and they already started to come off.

I have found my earliest sheds in late January, but usually I start looking in late Feb, or when the snow starts to melt. I have found most of my sheds in March.

I agree with coyotebandit!

A friend was just telling me a story about a buck they had been monotoring since bow season started. They called him "scarside" for obvious reasons. Evidently someone was using sorry broadheads.

They saw the buck chasing a doe about 2 miles away from their place at the end of rifle season. They were certain he was going to be just fine.

During the late bow season his Dad took a huge doe only to realize it was scare side. He had already dropped his horns. The cut him open only to find LOTS of infectious fluids. The deer was surely going to die.

He did however drop his horns in late December.

The earliest I have found a shed in North Texas is March 11.

Here is a picture of the one I found March 11. It is the one with the "wine glass holder" on top of his G2.
